Arizona Mom: Yes it is up to the A Schools whether then can come home for Christmas but usually they can come home at some point during those holidays. He will find out when he arrives there. They have to submit a chit to request the time.
ArizonaMom: Lovells would still be my first choice, but here is a link for others serving Thanksgiving dinner in the area:
Not sure how far from GL some of these are. These are just Chicago area restaurants:
cattipillar: Try Lovells of Lake Forest. Rave reviews, nice place, sailor possibly could eat free (usually does on PIR day but I don't know about Thanksgiving Day). A bit pricey, but very nice. Just google Lovells of Lake Forest. Owned by the astronaut....Jim Lovell.
Might be useful, to you all, if I actually posted the links for the letters!

I would like to clarify my earlier post by saying that my family and I will be there for our son's graduation and since the day after is Thanksgiving and his birthday too, we would like to be able to eat somewhere decent. We appreciate any suggestions anyone could offer.
Arizonamom: Try and call them tomorrow (847-234-8013) I couldn't reserve anything online, I think because it's so far out. I talked to Suzanne (manager) and she took care of it for me.
Addgrey: Just looking back through yesterday's posts...I'm not good at paying attention to details, for the Wacky Wednesday pic, we'll have to see if 2ndTimeAround, or DeborahRC can win for for all of us!! :) Their SR's are on Ship 11 Div 024 also.
Last, but not least, now that we have S's address, I am writing my little fingers off. Not gonna lie, I'm running out of creativity. Luckily I found a link to some fun Mad Lib type letters that you can just customize for your SR, and send a self addressed, stamped envelope, so they don't have to think much either...just fill in the blanks and send it back!! OH, and I had her pup walk on a sheet of paper, with muddy paws, and I'll send it from Lacy Belle's point of view...just a few ideas!!
Hi MommaJ!
I was also wondering about Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for the link :)
Arizona Mom,
I certain until about a week before PIR 12/21/12 that my son could come home. From what I've heard, it all depends on their A school. Both of my sons, sailor and current recruit had/have A school in Pensacola.
Hello ladies, just wanted to let you all know that I made reservations, for Thanksgiving dinner, at Lovells. The website is http://www.lovellsoflakeforest.com (diannep, do I owe you a thank you for posting this?)
2ndTimeAround and DeborahRC: My daughter is also on Ship 11 Div 024!
Marissadolphin3: She will be heading, to Maryland, for A school with your husband!
