~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Duh... sorry. N4M. Found it.
CatMom509... Where are those questionnaires you talk about (what internet site Facebook Great Lakes, something else?). I would LOVE to find it. Thanks.
Momm - you are welcome to my kitchenette any time :) As well as the fridge and anything else you may need.
TJsMom,
There's Boot Camp Questionnaires you can use up in the Pages section under the members' photos. I think you can edit and change the questions and choices on them. That's what I did! Lots of info up in those Pages section. Clicl "View All" to see everything~~
Oh, and I know some were asking about things to do in Chicago. I go there quite often since we are so close. Navy Pier is fun, but just a reminder.... Chicago is usually cold that time of year, and with the winds from Lake Michigan it can be extreme. Navy Pier is right smack in the middle, surrounded by water and cold! With that said, the Shedd Aquarium is really nice and close to Navy Pier. The "Bean" at Millenium Park is cool to see. I like the Art Museum, if you are in to that and its also close by. Parking is expensive.
If you are a member of "Groupon" and change your location to Chicago, they have lots of deals. Right now they have one for the History Museum for half price ($7 instead of $14) I always love the animated xmas windows at Macy's. Its on State Street and Washington. They will be up then.
After getting his letter, I felt bad thinking about his blisters. He is not one to complain, so I know they hurt. And blisters Do hurt, especially when you are on your feet all day! Poor kid! I sent out a letter w band aids so I hope that helps.
He must be worried about passing because he said he could get held back, but he was gonna do all he could to graduate on time. I did a little tough love in my letter to him, telling him 200 pages a week was nothing! (he said they get tested on that every week) I know he's tired and working hard. I was happy he didn't say anything about being sick. I was worried about that.
I think a mom said something here about a yes or no letter, that he can just check off and send back? What a great idea! I am def going to use that, since they don't have much time to write! Just goes to show, when a group of us get together we help each other in all kinds of ways!
BrandonsMom: Yes, you can bring the civilian clothes. He can't wear them until he phases up, but he can lock them up until then.
As far as Liberty on Thanksgiving Day, yes, they will have that for sure if staying at GL for A School. In fact, the GL A School students have the entire weekend for Liberty. And, yes, he should be able to leave with your friend.
As far as how you handle the trip, going or not, etc....only you will be able to figure out what you are most comfortable with and will be able to afford to do. I know it must be a confusing hard decision to make , but I know you will make the right one!
But it would be nice if your new sailor had family or friends to be with him for at least part of the weekend, if possible. Being on Liberty, he will have some strict rules to follow (including being in uniform all weekend) so if some of his friends go, they need to understand that. The new sailors are watched when they are around town! :-)
Thanks, ladies :-) our room will have a small fridge and microwave . . . that may be enough, but not sure. I thought they had ovens, too. I was thinking mac & cheese, sandwiches, cereal, lol! I think my SR will be happy with just about anything.
Brandon's mom - wow! I am glad mine are all older. What a decision. I sure wish we were closer and could help you out with the drive!
I have a couple of question concerning PIR....
Should I bring civilian clothes to my boy? He will be going to A school in Pensacola.
Also, I remember seeing posted on here at one point that if the new sailors have Thanksgiving Day as an extra family day, they could be released to family members for that time. I'm still not certain that I can make the trip, but may send some sibs with a family friend. My friend would be the only adult. Would he be allowed to leave under her supervision?
I understand some of the dilemmas, especially for those with large families! I have 9 children. My SR is the oldest. My husband works at a nuclear power plant and will be smack in the middle of an outage which means no chance of time off for travel. Not to mention the expense to travel from South Texas with all those hungry bellies! And hotels. I could go on.... That's where I am right now. Do I do the driving with some of the older kids and arrange care for the younger ones? My youngest are 3, 4, 6, and 8. Or stay with the kids and allow a couple of siblings to go? Either option freaks me out! So very torn... I don't know what visitation might look at A school, but it would be a whole lot closer. Any thoughts? I'm so complicated!
