N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

momm2five:  Navy Lodge is a mile from RTC...not contained on the actual base.  It is in the housing area.  Navy Gateway is the one on A School base.  You must be military yourself to stay in this one, I think (not positive).  However, Navy Lodge...you just book in your SR's name and tell them you are there for graduation.  Those staying at A School in GL will have to request a special "chit" when they move over there after PIR if they want to visit you at the Gateway.  The A School students are normally not allowed at the hotel.  Those staying at RTC before flying out should not have a problem getting into Gateway....RTC would be the ones dictating to them and we haven't heard that it is an issue.

Hopping up and down, doing happy dance ... called recruiter and he was confused because he thought he had given me the whole address.  He looked and my son is in ship 13, division 30, PIR 11/27/13.  WOOOOO HOOOOOO!

Comment by BoomMom on October 11, 2013 at 11:39am

Oh... My son put my "nick name" on the form, not my "official" name of which I have any ID in, AND misspelled his Dad's name... Go figure.  I have written him and asked him to get it changed asap... Momm... write him asap and tell him to get it changed.  Some day he will thank you.

momm2five...so sorry for you.  What a difficult situation.  Hard when they are so young and don't have a clue, but when they are 40 will regret...  Best of luck.  My thoughts are with you.  Also staying at NL.

Bethin~yes, it DOES feel better (in a way) than the sadness and grief at him being gone! And thank you, ellen, that makes me feel a bit better. I may hold off on telling his sister for a bit . . .

Comment by momm2five (GM MOM) on October 11, 2013 at 11:20am

Ok, ladies. Now I can't find the post with the difference between the *two* Navy Lodge hotels . . . which one are you all staying at?

Congrats and condolences all @ once Momm - they do some stupid crap that's for sure.  In a way, I have to giggle - I was annoyed at him for something yesterday & started to think - phew, that felt alot more normal than the grief :)  Figures, YOU get to tell the sister.  I concurr with your Grrrrr

momm2five, The form letter is not the final list for guests at PIR. When they are completing the form letter they are getting yelled at to hurry, yelled instructions on where to go next etc.

That letter has been sent with "Mom", "Dad", "Another Person", "Spot" etc. I wouldn't take the names to heart at this point, it may just have been the names he thought of first.

They will have the opportunity, sometime in the last couple of weeks of BC, to make their final guest list. That is the one that counts!
