Since the Ship 4 challange coin has not been made yet, does anyone have another idea for a gift to give our SR's on PIR day?

Angel - I'm Craig, I'm the designer of the challenge coins.  You are correct, ship-4 isn't done yet...

I also collect challenge coins, and it is a real fun hobby.  So I'm really familiar with the coins.  Each

has an unique story behind them.

Since the ship-4 coin isn't done, then if I were you I'd buy either a rate (rank) coin, or an RTC coin....

The rank coin is cool, but you've got to get the correct color.  If you get the wrong one, then your sailor

will be ticked!  The color is based on his rating (job).  The colors are white, blue, red, or green.  If your

not sure, just pm me his rating (job) and I will tell you which color to buy.  The best site for the rate coin is

here:

or you could buy a RTC coin.  These coins are pretty generic, which is why I wanted to design something

more special, but, since there isn't a coin for ship-4, then I'd buy this one:

If you collect coins, it's a great one to have in a collection.

One thing you never do is buy a rating (job) coin that specifies a certain job.  They haven't earn the right to have them.  Once they complete "A" school, then you can & should buy this one.  They have earned it at that point.  Here is the link to the rating coins, but like I said, wait until your sailor completes "A" school to give it to him/her.

Hope that helps you....

This is very helpful Craig. I am assuming that Ship 13 isn't done yet either since I cannot find it. I was looking at the RTC coin. But, the description looked like it honored those that train volunteers at RTC.

Thanks Craig.  Ordered the Rank coin and got it engraved as you suggested.  One question...what is the significance of the colors?  Is that on your Dep site?  Thanks.

trevorsmom - I'm glad you asked.  I would also like a ship 13.  I ordeded a Ship 12 for my SR that gradutes 11/30, but would like to give a Ship 13 to my 11/09 graduate.  I wasn't sure if maybe I missed out on them.

That is really neat. I  would love to order a coin later when it is finished. What a beautiful gift. Do the SR's learn about the history of the ship they are in at bootcamp?

No, sadly they don't.

I just like the history of them, so that's why I write about them.

Craig, I took a look at the RTC coin.  I also liked the USN Core Values coin.  What is the feedback you hear from the sailors?  The RTC isn't as coin-like as the others; any complaints about how it feels in one's pocket?

I noticed that too Elsie. I was also looking at the Sailor's Creed coin.

Craig, do you have an estimated time frame of when the Ship 13 coin will be ready for future purchase? I am thinking I could get a different one now and get the Ship 13 when it is finished.

Since my recruit is my boyfriend, I had a friend who does photography take a bunch of good pictures of me and I made a photo book. My boyfriend is undesignated though, so he thinks he will be on a ship by January. So I wanted him to have good pictures of me because getting pictures of me and us has been his favorite thing through boot camp. When he is home for Christmas we are doing pictures and I'll get him another photo book. I also ordered Shari's Berries that will get delivered to my hotel that day and I ordered him a really cool key chain. But he told me not to get him anything... LOL

Hey all,

Just an update on the USS Marvin Shields Ship-13 challenge coin.

I had troubles with the USS Marvin Shields Ship-13 coin, the reason is Marvin Shields is the only Seabee Medal of Honor winner, ever. When I got the proof coin, I had to reject it. The colors of the Medal of Honor on my design had the wrong color. I need to make dang sure that the Medal of Honor on my coin design is the correct color. Anything less, would not respect this brave Seabee. Secondly, I needed the colors of the Seabee correct. Anything less, would not respect our "Bee's". In the Navy, it's all about respect.

Notice the color of the Medal of Honor.  It should be "Baby Blue", not dark blue.

I know this won't help for your PIR graduation.  It will be ready about 10 Dec.  However, I did want you

to know why.
