Blessedsailorsmom I am so sorry about all this...family is something else aren't they? Rest assured your son will get to go out in a group to one of the organizations hosting an adopt-a-sailor event on Christmas...just like the eligible group did for Thanksgiving. If you have Facebook look at the US Navy Recruit Training Command Page and there are pictures and someone even posted a link to pictures from a church in Gurnee which is right by Waukegan tht hosted a bunch of the recruits...it was really nice and they were very supportive. I called the Public Affairs Office (POA) regarding Christmas because we have friends who live about 23 miles south of GL but our recruits are only allowed to go with immediate family...the Sailors in A school at GL are able to go with people other than family members into private homes. Anyway that's the scoop and I hope it helps...Your son will make it and he will be strong because of going through all this. Like Redsmom said we need to be praying for all the SR"s!!!!! Can I get an AMEN???

YIPPIE ~ for everyone who has got mail & received phone calls! I did some shopping today for Christmas for the family. Seemed a little weird not to be buying anything yet for my son. I am going to order him a Navy Nex Change gift card and have it sent to him before Christmas. We are going to take a family picture with Santa and mail that as well. This will be our families 1st Christmas apart but we will make it joyous none theless for us ALL :-)

Yay Blue Warrior Lady. And to all of you who have letters and calls, Hip Hip Horray and Yay! . I had an empty mailbox. And when I say empty i mean M-T.. No bills or ads or even Christmas cards. Really not so bad at all. A Couple of our local kids in the military (Army and Marines) are home for the holidays. Good to see them and catch up on their lives and their Military journeys.
As of 12-1 our SR had been in since 11-10 and his first "Day" was 11-22. so I imagine I won't be getting a call for another week. I will be anxious for next weekend.
