Tamme, Is it true that it can take up to 5 hours for them to get moved to their new living arrangements? If that is the case then Friday we won't get to spend any time with him. I am praying that we can have him in the evenings but I won't count on it . I am trying not to count on anything so I am not disappointed, but it is hard.

I mean't to say he wouldn't know util he transferred. It us up to the person in charge at the A-school of whether they have to return in the evening or not.

Tamme I figured it was something like that...I am hoping I haven't accidently posted something that could be linked to her. She lives in another state so me mentioning my state wouldn't add up...plus my screen name has no identifiers. Profile is set to private. So hopefully the walls are up. LOL

Who knows is the true answer. Our son who graduated in boot in 2009 stayed at GL for A-school and he got to stay with us all weekend, even evenings. He told us though that he would know if he could stay evenings until he transferred over to the A-school barracks.

Gmaof6, My understanding, is that the ones who are staying will more than likely have to move their stuff to their new location at Great Lakes right after PIR. This takes anywhere from 3-5 hours, but we should be able see them the whole weekend except at night of course. My Son is staying there for A School and my Husband has been researching. So this is what we have been told. Who knows though. I hope this helps.

Hang in there bluewarriorlady. Live vicariously through others letters. That always helps me. It feels like it is our own just reading others. My son said it is very cold but they have them in so many clothes that it is really a little too warm. That's coming from a southern boy too.

Hello everyone! I'm a little sad today -- I was hoping that a letter would come in the mail from my husband - or at least a phone call by now. I'm feeling antsy. Thank God that I have all of you. :-) Has anyone received a call from anyone in Ship 12, Div 41?
Comment by Tamme on December 2, 2010 at 6:30pm
Navyfam, we used first names in talking about our boys plus I'm sure when I posted my e-mail address and it had my last name in it, that was an easy target. I felt so bad. He reminded me not to do that this time. LOL

I'm confused. Is a whole division Grad and Go? My grandson is supposed to stay in Great Lakes, we thought he would have the whole weekend, he is Ship 12, Div 041. Anyone know the answer?

Our understanding as well is that it depends also on what type of A school and when the A school's next classes start as well as what has already been written. There appear to be many factors. If your sailor is a G~n~G and you have time Chicago is fun even in the winter. There is a wonderful pizza chain called "Giordano's" which is famouse for their Chicago style stuffed crust pizza ( i'ts WONDERFUL) and another eatery called Portillo's ( great chocolate cake shakes! ) You have wonderful museums downtown, and are galleries, and of course the fabulous Miracle Mile shopping. There is a lot to do and I am certain there will be other families will be visiting these places if they have never been to Chicago before. Make an adventure out of it!
