Surfermom Glad to hear you got a letter, We have received only 1, but like logansmama I set myself up by got directly to the mailbox when I get home!! She called her boyfriend and he said she sounded homesick but ok. So maybe she doesn't want to get emotional by writing more.

I wanted to add that the hotels there are very accommodating. You can cancel reservations for most of them up until 5 or 6 pm the day you are arriving with no fee. If you get there on Thursday and have reservations for the whole weekend you can tell them when you arrive you only need 1 or 2 nights and there is no fee. Just check with the hotel you are staying at. I wish it was that easy for the airlines.

Grad and go sailors can have A-school anywhere. They have to make room for more sailors who are arriving for boot camp. From what I have seen they often have whole divisions who are all grad and go but they are not always a whole division. I don't think anyone on this site knows exactly how they decide who is and who isn't believe me we would love to know that. The only person who can tell you if your sailor is grad and go is your sailor. They usually find out about the 3rd or 4th week but some find out at the last minute. It is such a guessing game. I wish I could give you the answers. My best advice is to go and plan on the whole weekend with your sailor. If he has to leave early then you can spend that time visiting museums or shopping in the city. If you make the reservations to leave early and he is not grad and go you will loose that time with your sailor. I know it is so hard to plan, especially when it is so soon after Christmas.

Yayyyy Tamme! So glad you got your letters. I have gotten one. But I set myself up everyday by going home and running directly to the mailbox, and cry when there isn't one. I know that is silly, but I just can't help it. I just want to hear that he has received our letters and the pictures of his dogs that he requested.
Comment by DramaboysMom on December 2, 2010 at 4:25pm
Yes. That is what the PAO said. they need to know where our recruit will be during those hours. Also, if you do get a request from your kidlet, make sure that when you fax the sheet back, that you call to confirm.
