To Mary/DavidsMom..My grandson's wisdom teeth were pulled the day before Thanksgiving, so he didn't miss a home cooked meal he wrote that he had to be on a liquid diet. Thanks for the explanation, Thingamabob, that's what I thought that it was done to avoid problems on a ship, but then again what if there is a medical emergency like appendicitis? Can't predict anything really.

Hey everyone! My internet has been down for some of the day, so I was unable to leave any comments. What is this about being about to see recruits on Christmas?!

Someone in this group asked me to post the ribbon info again so here it is. The ribbons are all hand made by me. I charge $5.00 each & shipping and that just covers materials and expenses. It is my way of paying it forward on this site. :-) They are made to show support for your sailor and make a great keepsake for a scrapbook, frame, or shadow box. I only sell them on this site so everyone you see with them on are N4M members. They are about 5" tall depending on how long the name is and the pictures do not do them justice. They look much better in person. I will post a couple of pics below and you can also go to my page and see more sample as well as some of the scrapbook items I make for Navy scrapbooks. To order just click on my name and send me a friend request and I will send you all the info for ordering. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I have been really missing my sailor today on her 21st Birthday.

I was sent the form by my SR son. It was sent on 29 NOV. I had a question so I called the number on the paper which is the Public Relations office. ( I don't know .. can I post that number? Maybe you could friend me and i could get it to you) The "Letter" is supposed to be on BLUE paper, but ours is not, so I asked the Public Relations gal about it and she said it should be BLUE> So i will call again tomorrow to find out more. I paper said these BLUE forms need to be faxed in by Dec 15. then you hold your copy so you can use it to pick up your SR>
Do you live close? They also need an address of where their SR will be during those hours.

Hi Mary/Davad's Mom. Our son had his wisdom teeth pulled Thanksgiving Day as well - at least that was the plan! But then he wrote us a letter on Thanksgiving and didn't even mention it again. Either it was changed or he wasn't too worried about it! I don't know if it was done early in the day or if they were able to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner first!

Dramaboysmom is the "christmas letter" the same form to be filled out for your SR to participate in the Adopt A Sailor Program? How do you get the form to fill out?
Comment by thingamabob on December 1, 2010 at 10:21pm
Mary/Davad's Mom-----This is the reason I was given. I copied this off the Navy recruit training commands FB page. .........they do it because Sailors are not always in a place or situation where wisdon teeth extraction is possible. So for example you have a Sailor on a destroyer that is on some important mission, and he gets a tooth ache because his wi...sdom teeth are coming in, there is no dentist aboard to do the procedure, and there is no way to get the Sailor to a dentist. Solution is to remove the wisdom teeth at the earliest, most oppurtune time. Boot camp is the perfect time.
