To add on to what Jessica said below about GradNGo, if your sailors are flying out for A School, you can meet them at the airport with cells and laptops....in a plain black backpack to take personal things in. The only exception to this would be if they are on a "charter" flight which means no visits from family at the airport. In that case, you will need to mail them once they give you the A School address.

If GradNGo to GL, they will move right after PIR (takes 3-5 hours and they will use their phone card to call you to pick them up on the new base when ready...maybe even allowed overnights with you then! :-) ). Once they return to the A School base, they most likely will be allowed these personal things (they will know). If not, or if family will be leaving before a sailor transfers to GL A School base (not GradNGo), like Jessica said...there is Lock N Go near the base to store these things until they can get them.

Kate: The number we have always heard of recruits in a division starting out is around 88. But they quickly lose some of them, and then regain some from earlier divisions who were asmoed due to injury, sickness, or other reasons and now are resuming training (they don't go back to their original divisions because those divisions are too far ahead in training)....but they never get back up to 88. My son's division only had about 65 when they graduated.

bleuwarriorlady: I totally agree with what these ladies are saying...I have been through this entire experience with my son, through A School, and now he is stationed. This is by far the hardest part emotionally for the ladies on here. The lack of communication with them right now, the holidays, it is all alot to bear. It was this time last year that my son had just arrived in GL so I know the feelings. It was the first Thanksgiving he missed, like most on here. That is hard....he missed Christmas too....harder....my son is older and had lived away from home before....but this whole experience was different. I jumped up and down (happy dance!) when a letter arrived from him...and sprinted for the phone when it rang...it is a very up and down emotional time. Stay on this site with these wonderful ladies and express what you are feeling....because "misery loves company" and all help one another here. Believe me...when you see your recruit in that beautiful uniform, all of these emotional times melt away....it is amazing...

Thanks again MissinShawn. I am sorry you were hurt but glad you are better now.
BlueWarriorlady, blessed... is right. You have many new sisters who have gone through this in one capacity or another. Some are sad because they don't hear from them in a letter or call yet, and some are having a hard time adjusting to
the different feel of their homes and lives. Some are experiencing their first holiday season without their loved one and others are just trying to experience the entire adventure. I am trying to look at it as another adventure in the life of Cole. I am anxious to read and hear all the stories he will have to tell. Just remind yourself that it's another chapter in the same book of your SR. And some chapters start out sad. But the story will have a glorious ending on 1-14-11!

Mom39: Welcome to the group! I, like Jessica, am a veteran mom...we both have stationed sailors. We try to cover the questions on here...so between the 2 of us and Lala too, we're hoping to help! Jessica's sailor, by the way, was in the same PIR group with my son....until my son got setback (asmoed). Jessica was a doll and reached out to me during the difficult time. She was "paying it forward" before her son was even out of bootcamp! She is wonderful...as you all can tell!
