Ditto what Lynne just said, blessedsailorsmom. That is what we are all here for!

blessed...remember they call this boot camp for a reason...they just forgot to mention that as a mom, a wife, a g/f or a fiancee that you too would be in boot camp. You are learning how to be Navy strong. It means learning to trust that your son is doing what he needs to do even if you don't hear from him. It means knowing that he can execute his job under stressful circumstances. It means taking care of yourself and recognizing that you raised a young man who respects and cares not only about his family but about his country. It means allowing yourself to feel all those feelings because feelings are never right or wrong they just are. It means never apologizing for feeling stressed, because as Navy moms we all have good days and days when we need a little lift. It means recognizing we have a new family member called the Navy and they now hold an important seat at the table in our homes. As moms, we will figure out what makes them tick and as the warriors we are, we will figure out how to support, encourage, defend and love our children with honor, commitment and integrity. That onslaught of feelings is part of earning your stripes. You can do it. You come back here as often as needed. We'll be here waiting.

Karla: SO TRUE that they are provided for and well cared for right now in bc. Just think....they aren't driving on the roads with these crazy holiday drivers, they aren't drinking and hanging around others doing things they shouldn't be, they aren't having to worry about anything but their training, they aren't having to worry about their meals, housing or anything else....I actually had the greatest peace when my son was in bc because I knew he was well cared for and safe! Now I find myself worrying about him driving to a N4M's house for Thanksgiving dinner (very grateful for the invite for him as his friends were all going home are had family coming in....we live too far away)....2.5 hours away from him....in unfamiliar territory. UGH! A mother's job is never done...at least the mental part of worrying about them!

Alice: If the box has arrived, the form letter won't be long behind it. I like to suggest that you write the letters, but wait for the form letter before mailing them and then mail them all at once. They love to receive a bunch of them at once! Many times, the recruiter's address is a little different than the "real" address in the form letter. They will get the "recruiter-addressed" letters, but it may take a bit longer to track the recruit down.

@joyceann ~ that is fantastic that you got to talk to your son and the arrival of a 'letter'! I hope that my son has found some time to write as well. I would love to hear how he is doing as well as the rest of his DIV. I too have sent some cartoons to make him (all recruits) laugh. Hopefully he is sharing with others!

Blessedsailorsmom, How old is your son? Is it the first time for him to be away for so long? Remember their pledge, Honor Courage Commitment. HONOR and respect his choice, COURAGE for while they are away and COMMITMENT to stay stong and look to the positive change that will happen when it's completed!
I cried alot when my SR went to College. He came home rarely and we visited for only short 24-28 hours at a time. He was gone 3.5 years. Then he came home for the 9 months until his ship date. Many times, I was ready to send him express mail to MEPS to get him out,, but the last 2 weeks before he left, I cried everytime we did something as a family.. ( this will be the last time my boys do this together, or we all go here together, etc, etc) The day we took him to MEPS and he and his brother said goodbye was heartwrenching! Just killed me ( and them, they cried too. my 22 year old SR and 18 HS senior) Gosh, it was killing me. But the day at MEPS when he got sworn in, I teared up a bit, and loved him and walked away, knowing that he is feed, clothed, sheltered, educated and insured, and making a wage. And my husband and I have done our best its time for him to fly ( or swim , I guess if you are in the Navy!)
Go ahead and cry, but look at the child you have raised! He is remarkable to make a desicision to defend our freedoms. Light the blue candle, hug your family and be proud!

What a beautiful day! Received a phone call from my son at 8 am for the rest of the addresses for his security clearance and then received a 10 page letter from him!!! The letter was mailed on the 22nd, but I live in Illinois also, so it probably got to me quicker than most will. He did tell me this morning that they were told that they were going to get to call home tomorrow. But--NO PROMISES. So everyone make sure to keep those phones glued to your arms!! My son wrote a little every day so far and told us what was going on. I'll write more later and tell you guys some of the stuff he said. He did say that they all enjoyed getting the "zits" cartoons that my husband cuts out of the paper everyday! I'm so happy now-gotta go bake a pie!
