Thanks, dianne! When I called residence inn they said I would need to call the cab company to reserve and they gave me the number. Is that right?

BubbasMom: Sorry, I directed my choice of airports post below to joyceann rather than you. SORRY! See the info I put in there on selecting an airport.

Karla: YES YES YES! Be on that 6:30 am shuttle. We were...and were in our seats by 7 or a few minutes after. No wait in a car line...we pulled right up to the front gate...we were 2nd in line to pass gate security....then just had the walk to the PIR hall. We were there in Feb so like it will be with you all, it will be a bit chilly!!! The walk is about 1/2 mile, but not bad. Comfy warm shoes though and warm coats to protect from that wind!

Karla: You are right on all points with Residence. I think you will enjoy it! We loved it.

joyceann: Residence Inn is about 5 miles away (10 minute drive to base with traffic lights....easy drive). We loved staying there. Springhill Suites and Courtyard (all of these Marriott hotels) are just about 1/2 mile further down the street. But if you need a 1 or 2 bedroom suite, Residence or Springhill might be for you. All of these hotels have the PIR shuttle (actually taxis) usually $3/pp each way.

joyceann: Some have said flying into Milwaukee is cheaper (and just a little further to get to the base...like a few minutes). Midway (Chicago) means you have to drive through Chicago traffic. Ohare is better for that. Just remember....if your recruit is GradNGo...book your reservations for LATER on Sat or even Sunday because the sailors sit for a good while at the airport (you can be with them)...leaving at different times...and it would be a shame if you had to leave to catch your flight before your sailor did. I would check fares to all 3 airports and choose that way.

Joyceann - Looks like it's 3.35 miles. I had a headache, too, figuring all this out! We ended up with the Residence Inn because it seems like it has big rooms, kitchens, a good breakfast, free internet, free parking, etc.

I have a headache trying to figure out the hotels :( Should have gone ahead and opted for bifocals. How far away from the base is the Residence Inn? I don't see that part listed.

Thanks joyceann for the tip about calling the recruiter! I've been researching motels. I first had us booked at the Quality Inn because the rates were lower and they have a free shuttle to graduation. But when I called them they said the first shuttle leaves at 7am. I think I want to get there earlier because I want t-shirts! So now we're at the Residence Inn which looks nicer and we will just reserve a cab for graduation - $3 per person isn't bad. I'm thinking leaving at 6:30 should be good? Of course, this is assuming nothing changes with our recruit's graduation!

Hi Bubba's mom, Just wanted to let you know that I talked to my son's recruiter this weekend (again), and he already let me know that my son was scheduled to fly out of Chicago on the 15th, so he is grad and go. I would suggest that you call his recruiter, because I don't even think that my son knows this yet. Just a heads up to help with planning.

I booked my hotel but not my flight yet, I am waiting to hear if my son is a Grad and Go. I have been trying to figure out what the best airport is to fly into but there are so many comments I am not sure. Any ideas here?
