Our son is at A-school in GL as well.  We didn't get a call from him until very late Wednesday night (had to remind him of the time difference).  He said they have five days of "classes" covering finances, A-school, etc. and should start EM school next week.  He has had to use the pay phones in the building and pays to use the computers there as well.  I mailed the phone yesterday.  He said to use regular mail because they have to go to a building far away to get packages.  Hope you hear from your son very soon.  I believe he won't be able to go get his phone and computer until they are granted liberty.  From the experience with our other son at GL A-school, they couldn't leave the base until they phased-up which was a couple of weeks.

We took our Sailor Son and his 2 buddies down to Eleven City Diner at Wabash at State (where our Sailor went to college.  He LOVED that diner!) They paid for their meal and gave them Eleven City T Shirts and Swedish Fish. I think the boys also were "picture panned" from the TV crew that was filming for an episode of "Unique Eats" on the food network!.

Ladies, it has been a blast.  I am sure I will check in from time to time, but I am off to his A school posts so I can get a feel of where he needs to be.

Wanted to share a touching story. On Sunday morn, we had breakfast with our sailor at IHOP. When we went to pay our bill at the register, a waitress came up to us and said, "It's taken care of." We said, "What do you mean?" She said one of the other guests saw us and said he/she wanted to pay our bill as a "thank you" for our grandson's service. We asked who it was, but she said they didn't want to be identified. So we asked her to please thank them for us. OMG...we were so surprised, and deeply touched. We left the restaurant with tears in our eyes. My husband told our grandson how wonderful that was, and how different people are now as opposed to how they treated the service men/women who returned from VietNam. How thoughtful that anonymous person was!

When I was at Gurnee Mills, I passed by the nail salon and stuck staring through the window when I saw this young lady receiving a pedicure. She looked like she was in 7th heaven and had been waiting for this for a while. Oh, the things we take for granted :-)

I'm not sure who the mother is of this Sailor, but I did ask her if it was okay to post on Navy for Moms. She said her mom is on here and she didn't mind at all.

ProudGMBarb.  He is going to be stationed on The George Washington.  I believe he said he was the only one from his Div. to go to Japan and yes, he will be in A School in Japan.  He is so excited to go...He ships out on February 27th....

Will he be in more school in Japan? My grandson has A school I think until September ...for ET, but in Great Lakes. Sure wish we could see him again sooner!
