Karla-  I know Gino's East is GREAT!! When my family went for my brothers' RTC grad the family and him went there and EVERYONE is still raving about it.  In fact they made sure to remind me constantly while I was in Great Lakes for Christmas with my Sailor.  My sailor's father had also heard about it so we will definitely be going there!  Other than that there was A LOT of things around Vernon Hills which was about 10 minutes from base!

I know this has probably been discussed somewhere. But I'm wondering if there are "favorite" restaurants that the sailors like to go to when they are on liberty after PIR? Anyone have any great - or not so great - experiences?

ProudGMBarb - I'm so sorry to hear about your SR :( I hope that he will get good news from the doctor when he goes on Monday. I hope that his injury is minor and that he will be able to graduate soon. You're definitely right about how they're feeling much worse than us right now. The most important thing is for them to recover. I will keep him and you in my prayers!

Nicole: I'm kinda in the same boat (no pun intended!) as you! Our SR isn't going to be graduating on the 14th...nor do we even know yet when he'll be able to go through BS or with what division. They currently have him on light duty due to his knee injury, and he is supposed to see the doctor again on Monday. It all depends on what the doctor says. I don't even know yet the extent of his injury...we are hoping it is minor and not some cartilage damage. I'm hanging in there with you, and will keep you in my prayers. We as familiy members feel bad and lost money on airfare tickets, etc., but these brave soon to be sailors feel much worst than we do right now, and like you said, they don't want to let anyone down. I feel so bad for them. I'll keep mailing our grandson a card each day to make sure he knows the most important thing right now is for him to get well.

Thanks everyone for the support! Navyfam- when I was on the phone with him, I told him that it wasn’t his fault that he got sick, but he said he didn’t want to let anyone down..... & I told him that everyone is so proud of him for everything he has accomplished! I’m hoping that he will be able to do battle stations with another division & graduate on time! Diannep - I’m going to tell him the exact words you said “once he becomes a sailor, it doesn't matter how he got there! He did it!” Couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks again everyone!

After hearingfrom my sailor yesterday I feel so proud to be the wife of such a strong man. I'm sure other wives and soon to be wives and even gfs are so proud to be with these men who for two months left us to give us better lives and for the mothers and fathers other family members so proud of your son and daughters who made it thru tough times and now can call themselves sailors. I'm so proud to be part of the navy family because without a lot of you wonderful women I couldnt have gone through this tough time with out you guys support and great advice. I'm so excited to start this adventure in the navy with my husband knowing thaT where ever the navy takes us there will be so much support from other families to be there to help us get through the tough time. I'm so proud of all the men and women sailors who stuck it out and got through all the things that bootcamp threw at them congrats to everyone and I'm soo excited to meet you ladies that have been there every step of the way
