@ diannep: Thanks for info about the shuttle and wheelchair availability. That might be the way to go for us because of his foot. Don't know how much further the walk would be after driving in on our own and parking. Sure wouldn't want to mess up his surgery! Always something to think about, huh?

Doing ok. It would have been nice to have a phone call but you know how it is, no rhyme or reason. I can't wait until next week, I'm jumping out of my skin. the time has dragged but it doesn't seem possible that they are almost done! Best wishes to all for Battle Stations. I know it will be tough but I know all our SR's have made it this far and will come through with flying colors- HOOYAH!!

Anyone receive any calls today? I hoped that they would get a call since it is new years. Oh well. Wishful thinking. How is everyone today?

ProudGMBarb: We took the shuttle which left us off at the front gate, and had proobably about a quarter of a mile walk...or a little less.  It isn't bad.  But they also will have wheelchairs there, manned by sailors, if if wants to be "escorted" into the PIR Hall!

diannep: Thanks so much for both your replies. I wish I had joined this forum sooner! We need to try and change our airline tickets to stay longer! Also my hubby is healing from foot surgery..will have his foot in a walking boot thing, but is not supposed to put any weight on the ball of his foot. I know..bad timing! Do you know how much walking is involved from where we park the car to getting into the graduation/reception center? The other two grandparents have no handicaps...but we will all be coming in the same car!

Karla:  If she is part of the 4 on the guest list, she goes in right away.  If she is not, the worst that will happen is that she will have to wait in the Visitors Center until all on the lists are seated.  But I have heard that rarely do they do this.  They usually let them in right away. You all have 11 divisions and ones who have 14 said that all still got in.  I don't think it will be a problem.  It is too late for her to be added to his list now...they firm that up about 2 weeks before PIR.  Tell her to go and enjoy!

...and ProudGMBarb...you will have LOTS of time for dinner with your new sailor!  I have a friend whose son went to AECF school there and she didn't fly home until Monday night.  So look forward to a nice visit! See my post below too....

ProudGMBarb:  There are two different ways sailors get over to GL Base for A School....the first is GradNGo...which means that they say goodbye to you after PIR for 3-5 hours as they move over there---then use their phone card to call you when they are ready to be picked up. They may get overnight liberty with you then, but for sure will have the weekend days with you.

The other way they get over there is by being held at RTC for a few days.  Then they are moved over to GL.  While at RTC, they have to be picked up each morning/back each night.  They also are not allowed laptops, cells, etc while on RTC.  But the ones who move over to GL right after PIR can take those things back to GL base with them.  The ones who move over in a few days might need to store their cells/laptops/clothing in a locker at www.thelockandgo.com and retrieve them once on A School base.

Hope this helps.

Bigmama: yes, he will need to bring his Navy swimsuit with him.  He probably can wear with it whatever he wears over his suit going to the pool on RTC.  He should know all of this when you pick him up...they are given strict instructions.

Question for anyone- How can our sailor swim at our hotel with us?  He is in ship12 Div 042 (a nukey!), grad n go for 01/14/11.  I keep reading where they have to be in official NAVY uniform at all times.  Does he have to bring his NAVY swimsuit with him?  What does he wear from the hotel room to the pool? Is there a NAVY bathrobe or something like that?
