I received a letter from my daughter today saying that the females from 009 and 010 are in the same compartment at night, and then they switch over in the morning to join their "brothers"
My son is in Ship 07 Div 010. I received a text message today that my son would be calling home sometime today...it's kinda freaking me out wondering if something is wrong. I've never heard of getting a text message in advance of a phone call, so I'm sitting on pins and needles.
My son called last night as well. It was very good to hear from him. He sounded good and said the weather was getting cold. I am so glad that he called my cell phone, because I was not at home at the time he called.
Donna, My heart aches for you. I know how hard it is not to hear from you son, maybe he will get another opportunity soon to call. The one thing my son asked for was to be sure to write letters. They really help and keep them encouraged.
I am so sorry you missed his call, Donna. Hopefully, it won't be long before he's able to call again. I can't get over how homesick my son is. He spent the entire summer away from us last year doing mission work and didn't seem to miss us at all. I guess it was different, knowing he could call us anytime, plus this is a whole other world.
Like proudmom07's son, my son is asking for letters, too. I guess the best thing we can do for them right now is to write as much as possible.
Hi Donna, my son too is in Ship 07 div 010. I'm starting to make my plans for PIR now. I'm booked at the Ramada but after reading some of the other comments, may reconsider staying elsewhere. It's very overwhelming. I'm booked for that Thursday and leaving Monday but may change back until Thursday. I also read that flying into Milwaukee is much, much easier to travel to the Base area vs coming from Chicago so I'm looking into that too.
Would love to hook up with some of the same ship/division folks too.
I've heard from my son a lot via letters and got a phone call too. It was so good hearing his voice. I cried and he cried. One of his letters said something about a phone call on Thanksgiving or before Graduation. I hope so. This past week ( 4-1) he called the Hell Week in that they were doing the gas chamber training. Can't wait to hear about the results. he's gotten his dress uniforms, one piece cdoverall and kakhi's. He also said they don't get mail on Fri, Sat or Sun, only Mon-Thursday. Can't wait to see him and to now meet (hopefully) some of my new Navy Moms/Dads!
