I am with all you ladies, I have not packed up either boys things! My daughters are sleeping in SR#2 room (technically not his room)~ Anyways I have to start packing up stuff cause his stuff is piled everywhere, along with his brothers! It is hard though!!

Dawn in MI

LOL Janis - I did the same thing with my SR - told him that we would do it together because I knew it would be hard for me and also, he needed to sort things he wanted packed up for sentimental, packed for his final base and packed for what to send to A school - he put his Xbox in the A school box, but I told him I moved that to the final destination box LOL

Pentwater98 & Proud Navy,

You're WAY nicer than me. Both my boys are currently in boot camp; I made both of them pack their own stuff before they left.  I knew that it would be too much to do it for them, both emotionally and physically.

Oh, and Lydia is SO right about the extras coming to PIR.  Bring them!  They will get in with correct ID...they may have to wait until others are seated, that's all.  Navy will only guarantee the 4, but they welcome extras who can come as long as they know they may have to wait for seating (but not always).

Comment by diannep on November 14, 2011 at 11:40am

Deanna:  Yep, so glad you got your answer.  They love having men/women in uniform at PIRs so no problem.  What a treat for your new sailor!

When filling out your Christmas cards this year, take ONE CARD and SEND it
to this address: A Recovering American Soldier, c/o Walter Reed Army
Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20307-5001. If we
pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these soldiers could get to bring up their spirits! Feel free to repost. This is a wonderful thing to do!

Thanks Lydia! I just heard back from RTC and here is their response:

That is correct: Active duty and retired military members with proper military ID do not count against the four-guest maximum and do not need to be on the access list.

Deanna - I know Diannep will have an accurate answer for you but while waiting for her to respond.. I just happend by this site to say hi to yall and I read your question.  My only non-technical response is that ....  when my son PIRd 09-02-2010 we had, that year, the largest PIR graduating Ship Divisions and there were many people who had additional guest... each and everyone got in with no problem..  Now perhaps that ID will help to get in quicker...  but there was not one soul that was left outside!

Congrats yall....  the days are passing so quickly!!!!  Pentwater... they lose a lot of weight in BC but gain some back during their holds for school and etc.  I would not get rid of anything just yet but perhaps put in a storage container.  My son went and bought lots of clothes when he hit Phase 2 and then he bulked back up with muscle again... and guess what... the new ones did not fit.  hahah!!  just a thought!  HUGS I know that is so hard!!!!
