N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Just an FYI about Navy Lodge.

It says on their website that they are located on Naval Station Great Lakes...This is true but that does not mean it is "on base" meaning RTC. It is the Forrestal Housing (ungated community) area about a couple of miles from RTC.

A Naval Station may cover a very large area and be made up of more than one base, housing communities, medical buildings, commissary,  a main NEX (in addition to the smaller ones on the bases), the list goes on.

Naval Station Great Lakes has two bases, RTC and Main Side, what many call the Main Base - which has TSC GL (Training Support Center Great Lakes) where some of your future sailors will attend A school.

Here is their website :

Poke around:-)

If you can't find a "roomie" and are looking for a hotel with good rates try Navy Lodge. Their rates are low. You can book the room under your Recruits name and paygrade. (That would be E-1 usually). It's a military hotel but they allow civilians to stay at certain times such as Adopt a Sailor and PIR.

Here is their number:

A few years ago I remember moms saying they were told to fax it. I am assuming that is still so ...but in this day and age I am wondering if they are allowing scan and email as well. :-)

Mom as and Loved ones...what does your form say?

Comment by diannep on November 7, 2015 at 10:58am

NaniNavyMom:  It should say on the form if you can fax it.  I would imagine you can.  I believe the cut off date is Fri, Nov 13th.  Hope it comes today!

Good Morning All !

Fingers crossed Prayers up :) Now I'm nervous & I pray I get it in time to return it back Grrr #NavyMomProblems lol Now I have another question; do you know if we can fax it back?
Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 7, 2015 at 4:29am

NaniNavyMom - Your Recruit has to send you the form for Adopt a Sailor. You may not pick him up without having the form submitted and approved by RTC. No surprise pick ups.

Families have been posting that Forms have been arriving this week, so I hope you have one on the way :-)

All of the Recruits in this training group are allowed to send the form home. Did you let your Recruit know that you wished to come and spend Thanksgiving day with him?

Comment by NavyMomSh14Div027 on November 7, 2015 at 4:16am
My son is in DIV027 He sent me a letter about the Thanksgiving adopt a Sailor thing but never sent me the form. Does anybody know if we can go without the form? Is it a special priveledge or its for everyone? Is anyone else waiting for their form as well? Does anyone want to get a hotel for a few days together to save money?
Sorry but Thansgiving is right around the corner and The info would really help me to know so I can make airport arrngements. if someone can answer me I've been putting questions up and never get a response. Thanx in advance God Bless
