N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I finally received the form letter for my girl yesterday,,,Ship 11 Div 030.  Was hoping to get a call but you never know, depends on the RDC's.  Navy Lodge is filled already?? We stayed there for my son's PIR last year...guess I better start looking around. BTW, today is her birthday,,,feeling sad today...

ussfremontmom,

Yep, like diannep said, the calls that come on the weekends are usually personal and are different lengths depending on how well they are doing in training as a division.  The ones coming on the weekdays may be for security information (and are short and scripted with an RDC standing right by your SR) or can be personal.  If an SR doesn't get to call when the division does, it may be that he/she may be on watch and it is up to the RDCs to allow a make-up call~~

Sorry about the italics for the second half of my post. I've been using Chrome (was an IE user but it is so slow and glitchy) and it shows all type in italics...so when I add that to my post to stress something I forget to stop it since I can't tell! Do you feel my frustration?! LOL. For all the poking and prodding I do on the net to figure stuff out, changing how Chrome appears is one cannot fix. Ugh.

I didn't check my puncruation either.

I'm going to bed...maybe.

Goodnight!

wendiwags:  Not all rent cars, but it is the most cost effective usually compared to using shuttles/taxis during PIR weekend.  There are good deals on rental cars....Sarge offers "shuttle" service from the airports to GL.  Also to PIR.  He reverts to taxi rates after those times though.

Comment by diannep on October 17, 2015 at 11:35pm

On the shuttle from Navy Lodge, I was told about 3 weeks ago that they DO have their own shuttle.  It is $2/pp each way.  But best to ask when you call to make your reservations.  No problem if they don't have it again.  You can book your shuttle with Sarge at his MeetandGreet.

Travelgirl67 - Thanks for posting that info!

For the NGIS...I believe that is so about the 30 days, but I would call directly to find out what you need.

Here is the web page:

Navy Gateway Inns and Suites – Naval Station Great Lakes

All it says near the bottom is this: Civilians without base access are required to be vetted for access to the installation. Contact 847-688-3746 or 847-688-6678, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. CST. After hours and holidays, contact 847-688-6675.

Navy Lodge - Unless something opens up on the internet...always call the NL. They get cancellations. Some have even booked other hotels and kept calling the Lodge and just switched.

I;m lost on the shuttle thing with them again! I know one of the other veteran moms will know ;-)

Ok, just a few comments on what I found out so far. And if any of you folks who are more seasoned in this and have different or better info than I do, please correct me.
Gateway Inns and Suites - can't make a reservation until 30 days out.
Navy Lodge - can make reservations now, but the night of the 4th is unavailable. If you book over the phone price is 66 to 72 dollars depending on which room you get. If you book online look for "more rates" and find holiday rates. That will be 57.60 a night. Have read the Lodge provides a shuttle but don't know if still valid, if there is a cost or anything.
Hope this helps others.

I finally received the form letter. A phone call would be great! My question: is it really necessary to have a car? Is there a restaraunt close by to go for an early dinner that maybe a cab would work?

I agree with diannep...neither hotel is a good walk. You're right diannep. Actually, my bad, NL is almost two miles too.

Comment by diannep on October 17, 2015 at 7:09pm

ussfremontmom:  Just a personal call, usually short, to say hi.  If you didn't get one today, it is possible tomorrow.....but they don't start until after 1pm Central on Sunday since they can go to church Sun mornings.
