N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

to CatMom509:  Possible call from my SR this weekend?  What would the call be about?  Thank you for your help.

*....that they CAN walk to RTC

Comment by diannep on October 17, 2015 at 6:51pm

Actually, when I googlemapped Navy Gateway Suites to RTC, it is more like 2 miles,.  Just don't want anyone staying there to think that they cant walk to RTC.  Same with Navy Lodge....not a "walking-friendly" route from the Lodge to RTC.

My son left on 10-08. Recruiter says he is ship 06 Division 032. Am I with the right group? Do they graduate 12-04?

Also, see their main page for the post and questions from loved ones.

Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor will affect those TG's that have PIR on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 ONLY. All other TG's will celebrate Thanksgiving on RTC with a traditional dinner and Holiday Routine.

Hi all.  My son arrived in GL 10-08-15. His recruiter informed me that his PIR is 12-04-15. Says he's in Ship 03 USS Hopper Division 034,  We were so excited to receive "the box" on 10-14-15.  As of today, no FORM LETTER yet. Hope to get it next week.

After I posted I had some personal thoughts about staying at the Suites or Lodge.

These are just my personal opinions.

Logistics aside, I would really think out the Suites. Some have loved it, there's a few places to do things on base and some have hated it and felt very confined. Especially if you are a civilian.New Students have restricted areas on base as well.

Even with a chit your Sailor may get hassled when trying to enter. They've also been confined to a military base for the last eight weeks and may want a little "breathing room" from ever watchful eyes. Brand new Sailors are very easy to spot by seasoned personnel. Chicago and Great Lakes is On the flip, some new Sailors won't care either way.

I am a reservist wife and so am not used to being on base on a regular basis. You are subject to their rules and you don't know them. It is it's own world. They have their own police for the base and driving laws etc. They raise the flag and lower it each day and music is played over loud speakers to let you know. This is Reveille and Retreat. Service Members will stop, face headquarters and salute, stand attention. Civilians must stop and stand respectively still. Cars must stop safely as well. It helps if you know what time these are going to happen so you are prepared. I wasn't and had no idea what was going on at first I was in my car. I finally got it. Boy, was I embarrassed. If you're used to military base life then not a problem.

The lodge is a bit more relaxing as it is not "on base". I stayed at the lodge. The price was good (so is NGIS - it's less than the lodge). Had a very nice time no problems. We weren't in the hotel much, my Sailor wanted to be out. Mall, movies, Museum. But some just want to chill and relax and take a REAL shower! LOL

So I would really weigh what you and what your Sailor will enjoy as well.

Thank you for the info. Access is not a problem, I have a military ID. Just was wondering which would be a better choice.
