Ye it is bad that they are giving the recruits different information. My SR told his brother that they had said he could come on base so I just hate to tell him that it isn't the case.

diannep...we are on the same wavelength :-)

The thing I don't like hearing is that the Recruit/Sailor mentioned it to their mom...which means that she was given that info from somewhere.

That doesn't help the situation. They post the rules...many times over in many places and while it can be distressing to some that only so many can get on base and into the ceremony...it is MORE distressing to have confusion.

Yvonne:  It sounds like the RDCs are telling some of the divisions that extras are allowed in the Chapel.  We have heard this before in other PIR groups.  But sometimes there is miscommunication between the Public Affairs Office and the RDCs.  I suggest you directly contact the PAO for a straigh answer  847 688 2405.  Please post on here if you get one so we know how to advise others in the future.

I agree with LoriM's comment.  In the link I provided below, you will see that they have asked that those not on the list please remain off base.  They do not have a designated waiting area for those not on the list.  I posted what I was told by Brian, but this was a number of months ago and they may have changed that.   You are still free to contact RTC to ask them, but since it is posted in the Family Guide that extras should remain off base, that is what I would suggest.

I'm sorry it's confusing.

I have a question. I am driving my vehicle to PIR and my SRs brother had planned to ride along and watch in the chapel. If he decides to come but is then unable to sit in the chapel would he be permitted to drive my vehicle off base to go back to the hotel?

Please click on the link below to the Family Guide and scroll down to the Items Not Allowed (on the right side under red writing!).  Posters, flowers and luggage are included ---- not allowed in the "Ceremonial Hall."  Whoever brought in a poster in a previous PIR group must have "snuck" it in....I remember one lady posting on here that just when her sailor walked in, the person in front of her stood up with a poster they had snuck in, blocking her view of her sailor as he walked by her section.  So NOT right.  So please be respectful of the rules and decorate the hotels rooms instead!
