I know we are all overjoyed about our sailors coming home after PIR so let's get all of our questions answered here.

Ma'am,

Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home.  Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28.  Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2.  Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School.  Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

Respectfully,

Recruit Training command

Traveling home the Sailors will be required to wear their uniforms because they have not phased in at A School.  A letter will be given letting them know what is allowed and not allowed while on Leave.  They cannot drive a car or consume alcoholic beverages while on Leave.

Our Sailors will not be allowed to bring their cars to A School.

This is a work in progress and I will try to answer questions as they become available to me.

Have a good day.  Kathy

Be careful about the cabs, and be sure they have plenty of cash after leave to travel with. Their orders should have a phone number to the school, and they can call and ask what the usual form of transportation is from the airport. They'll likely get a junior sailor on duty answering the phone, and they will almost always know the cheapest way to get to base.

Or the school may have a website with that information. many do.
Thank you, Anti M.

It is probably a good idea to join the group for their A school now. They may even have that information on their page.

My daughter said she HAD to fly out of Chicago and she had to have both flight home and to A school set up. I think I am going to call and find out if she really has to fly from Chicago. She said she had to go home or to school on the 18th.
Wendi,
I read, somewhere, that we should make all of the arrangements and then mail copies of them to the kids so that THEY can show the powers that be what has been arranged for them and to prove they have transportation to A school.

Also, do we know what time they will be able to leave BC? I said he is Grad n Go, so I am assuming he can be outta there quickly, but am making evening flight arrangements just in case. Nancy
She said something about being at BC for dinner on the 17th then leaving on the 18th. I wish I could call her and clarify. She said they would provide a computer and she could make her flight plans. I don't know how she is going to do that.
Really, cuz my kid wanted to leave that same day. He didn't mention a dinner at BC. Hmmmm.... Also when we spoke, we agreed that I would make arrangements, but he is in the 22nd group. I just linger here. :-)
Wendi,

The PAO said to be sure of the time that the recruit can leave, before setting up the travel arrangements.

I made our flight for the 19th, so we will be an extra night.

Betsy
Wendi,

Does she have a credit card at BC with her? I think that is the reason that they are telling the recruits' parents to make the arrangements, because most of the kids don't have a credit card with them.

Betsy
She doesn't have credit or debit. She left her debit card in her car. I have been looking at flights, though. Would PAO be able to tel me if she can leave on the 17th or 18th...specific questions about my SR or just general questions about the group?
Depending on where she banks, and where she is looking for tickets on line, she might have the ticket price pulled directly out of her account.
My son said that he was told that following grad he could grab his stuff & leave.
Oh what an awesome, birthday present.

We are trying to get all the info we can and pass it on as soon as we here.

Betsy
