No response as of yet but I know the only person that can give you the G&G info is your recruit. I too have not booked because I want to see if he responds to the questioned asked in all 17 of my letters? LOL. What a annoying mom I am, huh? Anyway I probably will be staying from Thursday to Sunday morning either way. I am hoping to hit lotto so I can book by the next week

Christine - I believe most of us are in the same boat you are.  We may not know if our SRs are Grad and Go until closer to PIR or even the day before PIR.  I have not booked my flight either at this point.  I think you have to be content to be able to see them at PIR and any other time spent will be a bonus.  If you keep that frame of mind, there will not be any disappointments.  At first, I told my SR before he left that I would not be going to PIR because of the cost and the possibility of only spending a couple of hours with him.  But after learning more about PIR and missing him SO Much, I'd spend a Million just to see him.  So hang in there and keep asking your SR in letters if he has been informed of his schedule.

Cat or Gina,

Do either of you know what happens if their A school isn't Great Lakes? My son is going to Mississippi. I haven't been able to make travel plans yet, because I don't know how long he will have after graduation before being shipped out.

WOOO HOOO Ellen, I hope that you do have that opportunity!!

Awesome-Cat...thanks for the info...praying you get a letter today:)

Yes, Gina, I heard similar stories, it was very confusing to me! Just the idea that we will have him for the weekend, hopefully if things don't change, made my whole day:)

ok Ellen, got some info from a seasoned mom for you.

They get about 5 hours to move over to the A school. If he has watch he will have to do that before hanging with you. He might be able to actually stay at the hotel with you all weekend. He will have this information so ask in your next letter and hopefully you get a letter fast so you can make your weekend plans. If this is a definate you will have a fantastic weekend! Good Luck!

Ellen - But don't take my word for it....LOL.  I'm the one that was confused about Ship Duty :)

Comment by Gina - Ship 07, Div. 050 on December 10, 2010 at 11:07am

Ellen - I believe the trend is that he will have liberty over the entire weekend.  So he will have to back on base at specific times.  I think that you will have a wait after PIR because he will need to check into his school and move over to his new barracks before he will be granted liberty.  I've heard stories like like this on this site somewhere.

So, my son is "Grad and Go"...my question is, if his A school is Great Lakes, will I still be able to spend any more time with him other than just 3 hrs after graduation?
