Lala, thanks for joining. Any additional info will be greatly appreciated. Love the idea of the ribbons for PIR. My son is in Boot with a rank of AO just like your daughter. I have asked him in a letter if he knows if he is G&G so I could prepare myself if I have limited time to spend after PIR.

Laura, so glad you heard from your boy and that he is upbeat. I can almost see the smile on your face.

900 divisions are the performing division. It has the staff members, who work during PIR as greeters and do other jobs. One of those jobs is called Body Snathcers. They walk up and down the rows of sailors at PIR and look for anyone who looks like they are about to faint. The sailors have to stand there for a long time without moving and if they lock their knees it cuts off the blood flow and can make them faint. The 900 divisions also have the band, the drill team, and the choir. Those who had high asvab scores, or who have marching, band or choir experience are often chosen for this division. It is definitely an honor to be in this group. ;-) They often perform at a couple of PIR's before their own and sometimes you get lucky and see them in a picture from those performances.

I recieved a letter from my recruit today!!!!! It is dated 11-24 and he sounds great. He said so far bottcamp was easy. they were picked for 909 for being atheletes and are a staff position but he doesnt know what that means yet!
It was so wonderful to see his handwriting and to know he is doing well!

Chicago is close enough. Many sailors and their families spend a great deal of time in Chicago. There are lots of great places to visit like museums and restaurants. We didn't get to take our sailor to Chicago because she was grad and go and it was just too far for PIR day.

Good morning everyone- I wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I am another veteran mom who is here to help answer questions you may have or to just listen if you need to vent lol. A little bit about me: I have 2 sailors. My daughter, had PIR in July, she was a Grad & Go & left on a chartered flight, 900 div & in the choir, she went to Pensacola for A-school and is in Ocean for C-school, she is an AO attached to a squadron, she got married during a-school, her husband left for bootcamp 4 days after they got married, he had PIR in Oct and also went to Pensacola, he didn't participate in PIR & came home right after battle stations because of a family emergency, and he is an IT. I am also the mom who makes ribbons for N4M members to wear to PIR to show support for their sailor and to have a keepsake of the event.

Right now you have lots of questions. What is happening at boot camp? when will I hear from my SR? what is allowed and what is not; where do I stay; should I drive or fly? How much time will I get to spend with my sailor? And, thousands more. Believe me, we who have been through this understand like no one else ever could, not even our own family members. So please if you have a question don't hesitate to ask. There is no such thing as a dumb questions. If Diannep, Jessica, or myself (and now Lynne) don't know the answer we will do over very best to find it for you. Welcome aboard!!!!!

Good Morning, A lot has gone on while I was off the site. Great information to follow and new members! Welcome all, and I am loving how this group is growing. I am noticing that as we are growing the more Ship and Div's we have. The comment wall within our group is definately keeping us grounded and provided us with a weath of information. It is helpful and comforting. However, I have placed my son's div up top in the discussion forum so that we can stay connected on the day to day events that we might hear about from our sailor's div. It might be a good idea for others to do as well.

Dianne, appreciate your thoughtfulness to join and assist, thank you.
Lynne, def rules to follow, thanks!

Tomorrow places me at the two week marking period since my son left. I am hoping to recieve a letter from him this week. So whether you are recieving a kid in a box, a form letter or a personal letter from your soon to be sailor. I wish you all comfort in knowing that they are progressing and our countdown is drawing closer to PIR.
