I agree, LibbyGu!  They must route a chit to get approved to take Leave during Christmas anyway once on A School base.

Garrettsmom:  The CT A School is probably like the Christmas breaks for all of the A Schools .  They usually go on Stand Down and the students can take Leave to come home during some of those days (they use the Leave days they accumulated during Bootcamp - 2.5 per mo.-- and can go into the hole to borrow others, earning them back during A School). They will find all of this out when they arrive on that A School base.

**face** not ace...

Raina/navyjeep my nuke son told the same thing about having those leave dates for Christmas. I told him to book his own flight when he got there and confirmed the dates. I know it would be cheaper if I booked for him now, further ahead, but it's just not confirmed until it's CONFIRMED, to me :-)

My SR is also going to SC and told a similar story about Christmas leave when he called at Thanksgiving. I didn't get the impression that staying was even an option. Maybe with so many heading to the airport at the same time basically, they can get together and share a shuttle?

Here is something to send to your Recruit:

Flight Info Card

LaLaRibbonQueen made this up.

It is to get their itinerary for their flights out to A school. They can fill it out and give it to you on Liberty at PIR. They won't know their itinerary until a day or so before PIR.

**NOTE: Never post your new Sailors itinerary publicly anywhere or even give it out to those who do not need to know. This would fall under OPSEC. It is "movement" of "troops".

Qrtkneesmom just a routine call! Had some extra time! Now the next call will be the I am a sailor call!

That does sound like the whole Stand down time for the Command. The 19th is a Friday and the 4th a Sunday. Even if they have until the 4th...I would get back a day early (unless they tell them they don't want to see their ace until the 4th :-))...flight delays, getting settled etc.

The NUKE Group or SC A school Group might have better answers.

It probably is better to wait though. Each Command is different about Leave. (Though, this Group will only be at their A schools for a week before the Commands go on Stand down. Just enough time for INDOC and that's about it.)

Borrowing against their time is borrowing against future Leave. This is usually quite safe for those with A schools that last a while as they then have time to build Leave back up.

Each Service member (all Branches) earns 2.5 Leave days a month/per Active Duty month. So 30 days total per year.

So, while in BC your Recruits will earn 5 days Leave. If they take 10 days Leave, that's two months of "going in the hole" as they call it. They have to be careful against borrowing against future time as they may need it.

All Leave has to be approved as well...needs of the Navy.

Dianne: I thought to ask on the other sites, but wasn't sure how many would actually have had similar circumstances. I just figured maybe somebody could tell me if there's a time of day that leave actually starts and finishes. How early he would actually be "free". Does Leave begin when they wake up???

He said that Chief received an official statement from A school regarding all NUKES reporting to SC. It listed specific dates and that they would be permitted to borrow against their time.

Being that this is all new to him, I think he may just need to wait until he gets there to get a better plan. Maybe find something out about shuttles to and from the airport with any luck.

Qrtkneesmom: My son said it was just that they had time to call. Nothing really important to say. Guessing they earned it maybe(?) Besides the I'm here & the Thanksgiving adopt-a-sailor call to add his buddy, this was the only time I got to talk to him via phone. I missed his first call and his next call he decided to make to his girlfriend :-[

Hope you hear from your's soon!
