Ktsmom96 - I was uncomfortable when I realized all the group members were publicly available so I decided not to join the FB group.

here is a question for one of the more experienced moms on here. I have joined the FB group for 12/12/14. My full name is on my FB page. Some people are posting their child's ship and div #, is that all right? I am trying to err on the side of caution, even though it is very tempting. I don't know if FB has an OPSEC section attached to it.

Lyrics - Thanks! It's mind boggling isn't it? I never did memorize anything on sight. It's too much lol. Most likely because hubby was a reservist.

I believe though that when you go through boot you have to earn the other branches. I believe they have to know who to salute no matter what branch...and of course, who they don't  have too ;-)

You're welcome, Debbie!  I didn't know about Southwest when I flew up for my son's PIR back in early 2010.  However, I flew Southwest a couple of years later to TX to see my son....my flight was delayed for a couple of hours out of Ft Lauderdale and they gave all of us a $100 voucher for a future flight!  I never used it, but was able to pass it on to someone on this site headed to PIR....was so glad I could help her out!

xelamom:  From the approx 88 in a division that they start with, they will lose some to discharge, setbacks, etc....and pick up some more who were delayed in training during earlier PIR groups and are now ready to resume with another PIR group.  They usually graduate with less than the 88.

Thank you!

Julie, no time off before A School.  However, they may be able to come home for a few days during Christmas holidays.  Most schools go on Stand Down and if a sailor routes a chit for Leave, and it is accepted, they can take a few days off and head home (on their dime!).  They can 'go in the hole' on their accrued Leave---replenish the used Leave when they return to A School .... they get 2.5 days per month, starting in Bootcamp.  But for those with short A Schools, 10-12 weeks or less, they may want to be careful since they may want enough Leave after A School to come home before reporting to duty station...
