~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

It's true that they are not allowed to withhold the mail but sadly we have heard this before. Not often and really no proof but I have heard of it happening. I really hope that is not it and I hope he and everyone else gets their mail very soon. It seems this would be something that might happen early in this journey. Now that they are getting so close to PIR I wouldn't expect them to do that at all. They are at the point now that they can see the light at the end of the tunnel and they are ready to become Sailors. Maybe there is just some kind of problem with the mail system. Did he say if others were getting mail? Very strange.

does anyone else have the " Hey Sailor" Video from Villa Park VFW Post 2801 from Thanksgiving day.  I have the video on my Facebook page but would like to post it here.  I know enough about computers to be dangerous. I looked for the Url but didn't see one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

8isenuff,  I haven't heard that term before. :0)   I have a lot to learn.  She didn't say anything about not having their RDC with them.   During the video Hey Sailor,  I could swear my daughter was one of the two young recruits calling out first.   I'm about 95% sure.  I won't know for sure until PIR.

HuskerFan, that seems strange to me, too.  I would not think RTC can legally withhold mail.  ?  I bet ellen0502 or diannep would know.

Here comes the rain/freezing rain in our neck of the woods.  Yuck.  Could make for an interesting commute for many.  Prayers for all of you who are traveling in this.  Hopefully those with PIR are already at GL safe and sound.

CalBlaze - prior to this 3 week period, he had been getting all my mail and I hadn't been putting the ship name, just the ship# and div - then when I talked to him on Thanksgiving he had mentioned he hadn't gotten any letters from me in 2 weeks.  That was a week ago.  Today's letter he makes mention of the fact that he still hasn't gotten a letter but he also says "I haven't received any letters minus 1 Thanksgiving card (I actually sent 2) since we last talked on the phone.  I'm not the only one who hasn't gotten any letters lately - it seems they might be withholding them for the entire division".

Comment by CalBlaze on December 6, 2013 at 12:23am

HuskerFan - I got a letter from my SR today, and he said that he received my letter. I usually send him a letter every other day. So, I know he is getting mail. I just don't know how often. He also mentioned that they should be able to call on 6-2, Which by my calculations should be tomorrow, Friday. Do you write the ship #, ship name, & Div?? Or just ship # and the Div??

Comment by diannep on December 6, 2013 at 12:13am

Too funny, 8isenuff!  That ellen....you gotta watch her!  :-)

HuskerFan:  Strange that you have been writing everyday and the letters haven't arrived.  But I have a feeling he may get a whole bunch at one time.
