Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My son had a problem tonight with his IPhone...seems he was using some app and all of a sudden, his wife couldn't text him (but he could text her). He could call her, she could call him, but her texts weren't going through. He had no clue what happened, but finally got it working again.

My phone is almost 4 years old...not a smart phone. The keyboard is so small that I have to type with the edge of my fingernail when sending a text...but I have to say, I have had NO PROBLEMS with my phone ever. Scared to death to upgrade to a smart phone (don't want to pay the extra monthly money either!)...but know I'm missing out on so much with my little dinky "doesn't do much" phone. People send me piks and I can hardly see them on my tiny screen! Frustrating....I keep digging in my heels when it comes to all of this technology going so fast! :-)

Sure hope your SR can call again soon!

That's so awful! It is such an awful feeling and I bet the crowd didn't help! It really is heartbreaking to realize how awful they must feel too. I was just talking to some Nukes at work and they were talking about how the mother of one of their shipmates managed to miss every single call he made. Poor guy!
I hope sprint got your phone up and running for you so you won't miss anymore calls!

I feel your pain. Last Friday night I updated my iphone 4 to iOS7 and it completely wrecked (only) the calling function. I missed a call about a job offer Saturday morning and realized the problem when the voicemail came through so I went immediately to the Sprint Store. While I was there waiting I started getting voicemails from my SR trying to call me for the first time and I had a complete meltdown in the middle of the crowded store. It was a terrible feeling.
