Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I want to try and "meet" their families! So, if you are the parent/family member of any of the following descriptions, let me know:

1: from Brooklyn, graduated with a 4 year degree from college in 2 years with a 4.0 (amazing, by the way!)

2: young lady from Dallas, Texas who is 19 and used to work at a correctional facility

3: a young lady from Mississippi...that's the only description I got :)

Comment by Mamaof6 on October 30, 2013 at 6:25pm: We received two letters today dated 10-24-13 and 10-27-13 in one envelope which was postmarked 10-28-13. We live in So. CA. He is a yeoman and designated watch. Ship 02, Div 905. He says they are a great group and is happy to be with them all.

Comment by diannep on October 30, 2013 at 6:10pm: So glad you got a letter, tracey! So -- sounds like some divisions were able to mail out this past Monday! Good! I had the same thing happen when my son was there...difference in address. Did he mention a ship change from Ship 13? If not, are you talking about the last 4 digits of the zip code? For some reason, my son's letters when he was there had different zpi numbers sometimes. I always used the form letter address. The last 4 digits of the zip are not crucial for them to receive mail...division number is the important thing.

Is this a problem? I hope he will get the letters I have sent his letter sounds so sad he is way homesick!
