Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I have NO idea how to plan to get to graduation....How do I start?

For some reason, I thought this would be easier...silly me :)

Comment by krystle1kat on October 28, 2013 at 10:27pm: I have heard from some of the other moms that some of their SR's thought letters silly at first too but then said later that they were so glad that they got them. I know your son will love the encouragement and love from his family. :)

Trying to get one out to SR #5 (DD) for tomorrow, as I just got her form letter today. He thought it was weird that I would want to send letters--silly him! I can't imagine not having any contact from home, although I guess it happens. SR #5's 19th birthday is on Sunday. It would be fabulous to hear from both of them this week. Phone calls would be especially nice!

Comment by 8isenuff (ET & MM) on October 28, 2013 at 10:11pm: Yes, it is pretty amazing, and yes, they both have PIR on 12/13/13. I am so proud of them, missing them like crazy, but very proud. The officer at MEPS said he's never seen a brother and sister go together before, and he'd been in the service for 18 years or something like that. We were hoping they might be in brother divisions, but that is okay. At least it is not 2 trips to the Windy City!

Comment by 8isenuff (ET & MM) on October 28, 2013 at 9:43pm: Have 2 SRs, a son and a daughter. Son is Ship 13 Div 38; finally heard from daughter today. She is Ship 14, div 40. Both NF. Glad they are on the same track to PIR!
