Got a letter today....My SR had her wisdom teeth removed which gave her a day to sleep in...She was happy about that!!!! But other than that she's doing great!!!
Can't wait to get home and see if I have a letter. Received a call from my son's girlfriend that she got "2" letters, she was so excited. My sister from North Georgia called that she also received a letter and cried when she read it. So glad the letters are finally being received. Hope everyone has good news coming their way!
Can't wait to leave the office in 10 minutes and head straight home to the mailbox!!
Ran home at lunch and had two letters!!!! They are so much better than the first!! He said the div. is coming together a little more - he is getting more used to stuff - said he appreciated me as a mom!! (I cried!!!) he has to iron and it has to be perfect and he didn't realize all that I did for him!!! LOVED IT!! Hope many more of you get letters today too!!! Its such a great feeling!
CLAMOM; The poor SRs' bodies are so flooded with vaccinations when they arrive there...I didn't like that part and was hoping that my "healthy" son could opt out. But of course, he couldn't. It temporarily lowers their resistance with such an onslaught of so many things at once, and most of them get sick for a while, but then they shake it.
NavyMomma: It is amazing how they finally do all come together within a division. You will see this at PIR!
Ceilia, thank you for your questions. I lived a rough life but I am a coddling mother. Your questions are similar to my own concerns. I was not good at teaching my eldest to "cowboy up". I just had an imposible time trying to work that into my job description as mom/dad.
Betsy et al. especially all those who are more 'seasoned' with the Navy, I can not express the support I get from your informed comments.
You're all just an amazing family. Wado!!
I am so happy they will have that break for Thanksgiving. Naturally, it's not every group that gets so lucky, and has to do the whole time with no break at all. I hope my son doesn't feel afraid to see the doctor if he really needs it. Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm writing everyday and my letters are all encouraging. I never let on how much I'm worrying.
My SR said they all got sick after they where given some kind of Nasal Flu Injection. And the temperature in the Barricks didn't help at all!!!
Ladies, there will be a good possibility that your SR's will be adopted on Thanksgiving. Even if they aren't able to go to dinner with other BC moms, there will be places nearby that will make sure that they have a very nice day. Last year, my son was in BC over Thanksgiving and his division was adopted by the Country Club. They all had a blast!
Being sick during BC, is unfortunately, a very common occurrence. Most, if not all, of the SR's will get sick. A lot of them try to muddle through and keep going, but some will have to go to siq to recuperate. They are all together all the time, their immune systems are compromised due to all the shots and every germ imaginable is trying to take them down. :(
Keep those letters encouraging. Most of the divisions do have trouble coming together, so that is a common complaint in their letters. You (and your SR's) will be amazed at how much they will come together by graduation. The RDC's can be miracle workers.
Hi Celia, Sounds like your son and mine (and some of the other sons mentioned recently) have all had cold/flu-like symptoms. I was thrilled to also receive a call about 5:45 (CST) p.m. yesterday! Mine also didn't sound good at all--in fact, I thought he was calling with bad news or something because he sounded so down. He went into SIQ about a week ago for 2 days for his cold, but he says he still has it, so that doesn't help his frame of mind I'm sure. Also, he said the same thing you mentioned about Div. 19 as a group not doing well and that their phone calls were short because their officers are not happy with them. In fact, he wasn't even sure they would be giving them their letters last night from us for the same reason. My son is frustrated with the lack of effort and those who "just don't listen to what they are supposed to be doing" of many of the guys, but I reminded him they need to work as a team. I think we talked about 10-15 min. before they were told they had to promptly get off. Seemed like 2 minutes. :)
