Celia is correct. RTC doesn't require the Recruit Training Command line in the address. So it is optional!
I somehow never looked at the brochure with the hotels in it when my letter was received. Weird. I didn't even remember that my son sent it, but when I went back recently and looked through his letters (he PIRed in Feb 2010), I found the brochure! I think I was so excited to get his form letter that I forgot to read the brochure! I found Residence Inn Waukegan online when googling "Great Lakes hotels." We loved staying there...great for larger groups too as they have 2 bdrm 2 bth units with sleeper sofa in living room, in addition to studios. Pet friendly too, with PIR shuttle and free hot buffet breakfast. Good location. Full kitchens and fireplaces too (at least in the 2 bdrm unit we stayed in).
Also, on the 4 guests listed for PIR....just remember....extras will get in. Navy can't guarantee over the 4, and the extras may have to wait, but will get in before PIR starts and maybe even with your group if they aren't expecting a full crowd.
I agree with FTLW about not messaging the password in the form letter to others for the OPSEC reasons she mentioned. Please write this word down and put it in a safe location (maybe put it in your wallet) so that if the form letter is lost, you have the word. Or .... memorize it!
Good morning, all! Jajajo, hoping that tomorrow is the day you will receive it!
You should be getting your form letter. Keep watching for it. If you don't get it, you'll have to ask your recruit when he calls.
Actually, the form letter is just a preliminary list, (some write mom, dad, nana on it...it has to be the actual name...no nicknames...because of ID checks), a week or two before PIR the recruit turns in a finalized list.
It also has your password for the gate pass for RTC, no one can give you this but your recruit (again same as above...he'll have to send that IF you don't get your form letter. I really think you will)...but for some reason if that becomes a problem (some have lost their form letter and I've had had someones child throw it away!) someone could probably message it to you. DON'T do it yet ladies. Treat your password with OPSEC...it permits civilians onto a military installation.
Those are the two most important besides the correct address. Also, a brochure for hotels and such.
Hopefully, Monday!
I agree with dianne! Praying for it too.
Jajajo - if you really can't stand it I would photocopy the letters you have and send them...that way you have them should their be a change in the info you have.
I got my form letter eleven days after my sons arrival...Saturday...he got there on a Tuesday. I am in SoCal.I know LaLa said that hers didn't come for two weeks. My son called before he got any mail and asked me about it...felt bad but I had an incomplete address...didn't know RTC had all the addresses listed.
Here is what they have for Ship 04:
Ship 4
3600 Ohio Street
Great Lakes, IL
60088-7103
So, I would address like this:
SR, LAST name, FIRST name, MI
Ship 04, Division 019
Recruit Training Command
3600 Ohio Street
Great Lakes, IL 60088-7103
Does that address look right to the rest of you on Ship 04 that have rec'd the form letter? If not, then please correct it...thanks!
I do know of a recent situation where a recruit wrote the wrong apt. number and the form letter came back to him and he had to resend. The mom was going nuts and didn't find out until he called and explained.
