N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security)
(Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips)

This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.

The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

 • Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for your personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

karis:  Do you know what national news (network) you saw Brett's story on?  I would love to look it up.  Thanks!

Felicia:  We ask that you all ask questions here first before emailing RTC because in many cases, we have the answers.  They will not be able to answer you about why you have not received letters or form letters.  They will tell you that it is up to your SRs to mail these.  Only one form letter can be sent (if it is not received, they will not be allowed to send another one out)...so if anyone has not received it within about 2-3 weeks after leaving, you need to ask your SR if it was sent to someone else.  There is an important password in there that will be used to get your PIR gate pass...so you will need that.  Your SR knows it.

AnthonysMom:  Brett is in Shands in Jax.  He is in Trauma ICU and has been there for over 2 weeks.  Ladies, thanks so much for the prayers for Brett!  He is such a wonderful guy, his entire extended family are just THE BEST!  This has been shocking for them, but they are a family of Christians and know that the Lord has a plan....just hard to get through the day by day seeing him suffer so much.  Now they think he could have Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome from the attack itself...they aren't sure yet since communication with Brett is very limited so far.  He is not speaking yet...just got the tube out of his throat on Monday and a trach was put in.  He is mouthing some words, but not many.

EODMom:  Calls are very random from your SRs...so keep the phone handy at all times.  Even in the bathroom and when going out to the mailbox!

diannep - I saw something on the national news about that. How terrible for him and his family and friends. I pray that he gets better and will be able to make a full recovery. His poor mom. We think we have it bad waiting for phone calls and letters. Puts it all into perspective.

I am seeing people talking about phone calls they got.  Did you get another phone call other than the one they arrived safely?   For those who have not received their letters and its been two weeks, here is the website for the navy training command Center.   Go to Contacts and email them.   They are very good to respond to questions.  They have responded to all of mine very quickly.

only 48 days to go until I see my son again.  I have never wished that 12/21/12 would come so quickly until now.

Diannep~ what hospital is he in?  I am from Jax (Navy Brat myself) and now live in Virginia Beach.  However 3 of my friends back home in Jax are nurses at different hospitals.  What hospital is he in?  I am so sorry to hear about this story!

Good Morning Ladies:

Don't now if I have posted on here about one of our sailors...and his horrible tragedy.  He has been in 4 yrs, the one who influenced my son to go in.  He is a wonderful family friend (going back to his grandparents' friendship with my parents since their teens, and his mom and my close friendship).  He is a great guy....33 yrs old, married, 16 mo old son, daughter due in Dec.

On Oct 17th, he was completing a personal training session (does that in addition to Navy job in Jacksonville FL)....heard a mugging victim yell for help in an apt parking lot...ran to help...mugger whipped out a gun and shot him in the abdomen (they arrested the mugger...22 yrs old).  Since then, he has been a horror.  He shouldn't be alive, as the drs have said many times at all stages of his recovery.  He has had most of his colon removed, his kidney removed (dialysis on the remaining one), an artery to his right leg (severed in his abdomen) repaired, about 8 surgeries so far, had to have the lower part of his right leg removed on Monday...he is a fighter and is amazing his hospital staff...the family is in shock, of course, but there with him.  Prayers are numerous for him...and I would like to ask you to join us in praying for Brett.  He is such a great guy...and was doing a very heroic thing...his daughter is due on Dec 10th...hoping he will be well enough to be there for her birth...

Here is a tv interview done with his wife and brother yesterday in Jax.

http://www.news4jax.com/news/Wife-brother-speak-of-sailor-recoverin...

Also, here is the caringbridge link to follow his progress/post on his guestbook:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/brettparks

Prayers are so much appreciated.  My heart breaks for them...his mom is one of my closest friends...she had just spent a month with her dad when he fell on vacation in NC and hit his head severely...a month in the hospital up there (she is from Miami so away from her hubby and family for that time).  Just had ambulanced her dad to Miami from TN a week before this happened.  She is "running on empty" but is tunnel visioned on her son, of course.  Thanks so very much!

I am so sorry that you have not received any calls or letters from your son.  When I write to my son, I will be sure to tell him to go over and punch Edward for you. I am bombarding him with letters.  I have written every day.

Seriously, I know how disheartening it is waiting to hear something from your child or other loved one.  I hope that everyone hears from their loved ones today or this weekend. It is heartbreaking not knowing what is going on.  I'm sure that Edward is doing fine.

Good Luck to all!
