N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security)
(Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips)

This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.

The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

 • Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for your personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

NauticalGem:  Sarge provides transportation to his MeetandGreet normally, but I'm not sure about which hotels.  Text him about it.  Since you are using his service from the airport, I bet he will do it.

Jem:  She will be on LEAVE.  Yes, she can wear civilian clothes so bring them!  They will be briefed on all rules, but she is definitely on LEAVE, not LIBERTY, when she goes home with you.  The LEAVE Days count against what she has earned, and they do let them "go into the hole" for some more days....they will make these LEAVE days up during A School (earning 2.5 a month).

We had a scare today our SR called and there was a question about a health issue many many years back. We had to fax numerous papers and we just finally recieved a call saying everything was fine and he could participate. Needless to say mom here has about had heart failure but now I'm waiting or the big call. Many congrats to those moms that have recieved the Sailor call.

I'm both happy and a little bummed at the same time. My son (Div 32) called and he's a SAILOR!  Originally, he was told he needed to report to Corry Station by Dec 30th, but when he got his written orders he has to report by Jan 7th. I asked him if he wanted me to change his flight and he said he'd need to apply for leave and get everything approved before he could change his travel plans - he's not sure how that works.  He was pretty tired so I guess he'll call me later if he wants anything changed.  It sure would be nice to have a couple more days with him at home.

Gah, darned weather. Something very similar happened early in January when my other son graduated from boot camp. Weather in Chicago was very mild the entire winter, until that point. Sure enough, Thursday saw a lot of snow. My wife works for an airline, so we were fortunate enough to get standby seats the Wednesday prior.

We actually bought tickets this year out of fear of lack of standby seats due to the holidays. I'm seriously contemplating flying in a day early again, standby, to make sure one of us gets there. I'm hopeful the weather cooperates enough to allow us all to get there. It's so worth it, especially if it's your first time.

Is anyone staying at Extended Stay America in Gurnee? I'm trying to figure out how I'm getting to Sarge's meet and greet. I'm not renting a car so I will probably take a cab unless someone can let me carpool with them.

A RAPIDLY STRENGTHENING STORM SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND TRACK ACROSS ILLINOIS AND NORTHERN INDIANA THURSDAY. RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM WEDNESDAY NIGHT...WITH SNOW POSSIBLE OVER NORTHWEST ILLINOIS. AS THE SYSTEM MOVES NORTHEAST ACROSS THE AREA THURSDAY...COLDER AIR IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE PRECIPITATION OVER TO ALL SNOW ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS BY MIDDAY...AND ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THURSDAY AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF FROM WEST TO EAST THURSDAY NIGHT.
THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL LIKELY ACCUMULATE TO THE NORTHWEST OF THE STORM TRACK. THIS WOULD SUGGEST THAT THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WOULD OCCUR ACROSS EASTERN IOWA...NORTHWEST AND NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...AND WISCONSIN. HOWEVER...MUCH OF THE AREA...INCLUDING CHICAGO...IS FAVORED TO SEE SOME ACCUMULATING SNOW BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING...WITH CHANGES IN THE TRACK OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM HAVING A SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE ON OVERALL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS. A TRACK SOUTHEAST OF CHICAGO WOULD RESULT IN MORE SNOW AREA WIDE...WHILE A TRACK OVER OR NORTH OF CHICAGO WOULD RESULT IN MUCH LESS SNOWFALL.
WHILE THERE REMAINS QUITE A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY ON SNOWFALL DURATION AND AMOUNTS...ONE ASPECT THAT LOOKS HIGHLY LIKELY IS THAT THE WEST NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BECOME STRONG ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GUSTS SHOULD BE UP TO 40 TO 50 MPH AND POSSIBLY EVEN STRONGER. WHERE SNOW DOES OCCUR...THESE WIND SPEEDS WILL LEAD TO BLOWING SNOW AND LIKELY SEVERELY REDUCED VISIBILITIES.
ANYONE WHO PLANS ON TRAVELING ACROSS THE MIDWEST WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DIFFICULT TRAVEL... ESPECIALLY FOR AREAS WEST AND NORTH OF CHICAGO. IT IS IMPORTANT TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS ON THIS POTENTIAL WINTER STORM. IN ADDITION...THIS STORM MAY SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT AIR TRAVEL THROUGH CHICAGO OHARE AND CHICAGO MIDWAY AIRPORTS.
