~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security)
(Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips)
This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way.
The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for your personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

bamamom: In the Navy, they learn to "roll" their clothes. Saves space! So...I did that when I flew to see my son for Thanksgiving last year. I even rolled my underwear....and was able to actually get about 8 pairs in my purse! It really does save space! Remember, you will need to wear layers up there....the lake wind is brutal and goes right through you. The long-sleeved dry fit shirts are good as undershirts.
Does anyone have any packing tips for my flight? I haven't flown in many years and trying to cram 4 days of winter clothing & accessories into my carry-on and 1 checked bag. Let's just say, I'm indecisive when it comes to my clothes/shoes. :)
My heart is sick for the parents and loved ones of my fellow CT neighbors. Even though I live on the other side of the state, it feels like they are in our back yard. We started getting the news, long before it went national today. And my SR called tonight just to check on us. He said he didn't have long, but their RDC's told them to call home and make sure their families were okay. You could hear terror in his voice. It saddened me to hear the fear. But thankfully, we are healthy and I spent the day with one of my best friends making cookies to take to my SR for our celebration in Great Lakes next Friday. Continuing to pray for those folks in Newtown.
bamamom - so glad to hear your mom is home...that will make for a Merrier Christmas.
techgirl - sorry to hear about your mom - we lost my FIL 2 years ago to Alzheimer's. It is such a cruel disease.
Prayers to all the familie's in CT. Can't even fathom what they are going through right now - such a horrible, horrible tragedy.
Mommamac, Thank you so much. I have read your priv mssg. I just have not had time to answer it properly. :)
UPDATE: Mother got to come home today. YAY!! She is much better. Dr.'s seem to think this is just another stage of COPD. However, she received no other treatment or meds than what I do at home. This disease is very puzzling and frustrating. I did not realize what an epidemic it is. So debilitating and so sad. God answered my prayers of having her home and healthy for Christmas. Now if we can just get all of our SR's to come home, that would be great!
Ribbon Queen, I understand what you mean about the fact that they can do things in their head but are unable to do them physically. Very difficult for all to watch any disease take away what they once knew. I will include you and your family in my prayers. Take care.
Techgirl, I am very sorry about your mom. I understand and hope that everything works out for the best, not only for Christmas, but in the new year.
Amen....shock doesn't even cover it....I can only picture how many of those homes have their Christmas trees up and decorated, with possibly a stocking hung with a child's name on it who is now in heaven.....tears just keep coming....
An elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut with as many as 20 students may have been shot as well as some adults. So much tragedy in the world now. My thoughts and prayers are with all of these families.
