Half the things they tell the boys/girls will change. Last week J was going to A school in Great Lakes and now this week they said he was going to San Diego. It's a part of bootcamp that we have to learn and get use to.. that things change, we won't always know information, we will get half the information...

I talked to J yesterday and he told me that I didn't need to send an itinerary because he was leaving bc with family and driving home. He told me that the people who were renting cars and going home or flying home would need their families to send itineraries. I would wait if you have not heard anything about an itinerary to ask your SR about it.

lynne- thanks you so much for going into ur way and helping out! your advices/info are very very helpful to us. God bless you! and yes, maybe he's been asking around there about that matter. i am sorry to for being redundant :( its just i really dont know what to do. his last call to me yesterday, he keeps saying he's been telling his RDCs he wants to get married after BC, he then should get advices and more infos in there. i'd rather wait than get him in trouble, and yes, i had no idea that one day ill be marrying a sailor..i didnt even thought about it for 1 time... but really thanks so much and i really do appreciate it! :)

We have to email or fax a copy of their intinerary if coming home during leave after PIR. So, this means if you're flying your sailor out (or even driving), you have to email/FAX proof, pretty much, of where they'll be. lol Sorry about all the jumbled words. Also, the same applies to their trip to A school. Email the itinerary along with the SR's name, ship, & division to Scheduling.office@navy.mil or you can FAX it to: 847/688-3279. Message me if you have anymore questions.

i don't understand these comments about sending itinerary to the Navy - what's that about?
Comment by Lynne on November 21, 2010 at 2:24am
Here is the thing...the bases are pretty much on stand down from Dec. 17th until Jan. 3rd I think. But, it isn't like a school break where that means the sailor is automatically off. They have to put in a "chit" which is a request for leave. This has to be accompanied by an itenerary with their travel plans. At the end of boot camp they have accrued five days of leave. Anything more than this is considered in the hole or is owed to the Navy. So, they are using up vacation in advance. Many sailors are given the opportunity to have leave prior to going to the fleet after A-school and so they give up this time if they are in the hole from Christmas. My son was given the opportunity to work at the recruiting office for five days at Christmas so he will get to come home for 10 days without being "in the hole". When he returns to the base he will have watch, barracks duty etc. The base keeps running but is staffed minimally. This is an important discussion to have with your recruit. Make sure you think about the consequences of the decision that you make.

Also let's learn the difference between liberty and leave. Liberty is time off that isn't considered vacation. It is like after work hours or perhaps weekend hours. Liberty typically has mileage rules associated with it. Leave is actual vacation. Sailors can go anywhere once they have leave approved by their command.

Nina you have asked many questions and I will answer what I can. First, the best place for you to go to get some answers is to the Pensacola group. They have a discussion forum that talks about new arrivals.

My understanding is that getting married after PIR is prohibited. You are in the Navy now and guess what you have to have permission to get married. I know that stinks but it is the truth and your sailor could get in trouble for doing that. I am sure he has been told this is a no-no. He will have to ask his command in Pensacola for permission to marry. I'm a thinking you are getting married in Florida unless you want to wait until after A-school. I could be wrong and maybe one of the other seasoned moms will tell you different but that is my understanding. I would check into the consequences of waiting until after A-school because then you get wrapped up into who will pay for your move to his duty station and housing etc. Bet you didn't know you were marrying the Navy too huh!!! Keep a smile on your face and remember the most important thing is you love that sailor!!
