Lynne - oh, thank you, thank you! So beautifully said. It doesn't seem like anyone else understands, and coming here makes me realize that i am not alone, i am not a freak for missing my son soooo much! Nina - We got our 2nd real letter, it was written on Veteran's day.

I think all of you are such wonderful people...it is so nice to know no matter what the feelings are or how we express ourselves, nobody judges....if anything we can all relate. I am so happy I found N4M's this has been the greatest support for me since my son DEP'd (is that a word?) in September, I have to admit when I'm at work and I have a moment I log on to see how everyone is doing....I feel like when I'm on N4M's I am some how close to my son...strange??? Maybe its that familiar connection and understanding with other mom's/wives that I need right now in this amazing journey.

npssailor mom, ctown...I didn't hear one bit of whining. I heard a mom who is sad because one of her children has left the nest. Worse than that...she can't check on him to see how they are doing...are they flying solo or are they falling down? When you hear they are lonely, tired or overwhelmed your heart aches for them. As darkness falls, you worry, wondering if they have eaten enough, slept enough, and are free of illness. You know they are doing a great service for this country...but in some ways you just want your child back! Sound familiar...I think I could name hundreds of moms who have felt just what you feel. That is why this site is so very important.

You are reaching the midway point. Your nerves of steel are being to reach their breaking point. You've had highs and lows and now you feel probably, if you are like I was...like you are on a tight rope, just trying to put one foot in front of the other...and doing what has to be done to get through another day.

That is normal for where you are. That is pretty much how your recruit is feeling too. They are just turning the corner from hanging on to the threads of being a civilian to being Navy. things are going to start looking up. Both of you will begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. In the next week or so, the recruits will be given additional time to write on Tuesdays and Thursdays...more letters woo hoo!! They will have learned how to march and the talkers will have quieted down. They will have gotten used to the schedule and will be starting more of the "fun" parts of boot camp like Marlinspike and Firefighting.

Keep writing those letters. Keep venting to us. We have big shoulders and trust me I can whine and carry on with the best of them....lol!! Someday I'll tell you about it. Your recruits are okay and so are you! We are in it to win it. You are earning your navy stripes...perhaps you thought I was kidding when I said that before but you are in boot camp as well. You can do it. I know you can just like hundreds of moms before you have!

Tomorrow is a new day...and hopefully those letters will start rolling in!! NP do something funny to let your recruit know you are in need of a letter...draw a mail box...with little tears dripping from it...that says....."need mail" he'll get the drift and good laugh too...lol!!

Yes, boy do we miss them. I went from a house with 2 dogs, two 20-something sons, and me to a house with just the dogs and me....all at the same time. My older son decided to move into his own place with a buddy the same month my son left for bc last Nov.....UGH! I had a hard time...N4M's helped alot. I still go by their "empty rooms" late at night and miss them.....but I get happy when I know that they are growing up! I know my children are "loaned" to me by God, and I cherish the childhood memories I have...and look forward to relating to them as responsible young men! Well, MOST of the time responsible... :-)

Also, ctownnavymom: You probably will find that those not in the military won't understand your emotions. But we do! Even now, with my son stationed, friends and family don't understand. I talk about Navy for Moms and some of the wonderful ladies on here...and they just stare at me blankly. So that is why we are all on NavyforMoms! You are "amongst friends."
Comment by diannep on November 16, 2010 at 10:11pm
ctownnavymom: You are talking about the Adopt a Sailor program. They have to get a form from RTC (your recruit does) and it has to be brought to RTC by the family who will take your son. But I believe he has to know this family....I don't think they randomly let the sailors go with families for Thanksgiving. You can call the Public Affairs Office for more info 847-688-2405
