For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by rayner on November 14, 2012 at 4:07pm: Hi Everyone!! My son is on Ship 02 and Div 907. Still waiting for a letter and going crazy trying to find out all the needed info for graduation day. I have been keeping track on this site.

I live in Illinois and like the snow (most of the time) and the crazy weather. We do keep the streets very clear here. Usually December weather isn't too bad.

I do have some good news.....an American Legion Hall is sponsoring dinner for 40 of the GL recruits for Thanksgiving! And of course I got the ok to volunteer!!! Yeah! I don't know who -- what ships or divisions but I will be taking lots of pictures and giving out lots of hugs!! I will post them somewhere for all to see. I just have to find a spot. :)

Comment by pramsey0627 on November 14, 2012 at 4:05pm: My son is Ship 11, Div 044. Got the form letter yesterday and I am so excited for 12/28 to get here! I am a first time Navy mom so I am just overwhelmed with everything at the moment. I'm sure my son is doing much better than I am! We are driving to Great Lakes and have reservations at the Ramada Waukegan. I'm not sure what else to do at this point except write lots of letters and wait for the "I'm a Sailor" call. In looking at lots of posts here and on Facebook it seems that only the four listed on the access list will actually be able to attend PIR. A lot of people seem to be calling the POA about stuff but I don't even know what I don't know! Glad to have this group!

I knew i would miss him, never thought not being able to speak to him would have such a huge impact on my daily life. I can't wait to see my Sailor!!!

FL, I rented an SUV and brought my can-drive-in-anything commercial driver's licensed then-25 yr old son with me to drive if need be....because I was afraid of driving in snow/ice. I had heard that the Chicago area is great about keeping roads clear and found that to be true. Although there was lots of snow on the ground when we were there, we only had flurries so no road problems.

The 900 divisions are made up of three different groups that rotate. One PIR group will have the performing group, another will be the admins and work behind the scenes and the other one will be the flag division that carries the 50 state flags. Each 900 division normally performs at the two PIR's before their own and then at their own as well. So with performers have a good chance of seeing pics from one of those performances.

@diannep....My hubby is retired Navy Chief....Id, not an issue. I want to be close by, just in case the weather gets crazy. Don't want to have to drive in the stuff...lol
