~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".
The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Jtram88: Still trying to figure that out, but be sure to look above on this page and to the right at the PAGES section (under MEMBERS box) for info on what they did in 2010 and 2011 for this group. Could be the same this year, you never know. Waiting on precise info from RTC. Frustrating that it is taking this long for them to post their decision on holiday leave! Hoping you all will know something soon!
TyrellsMom: Not all in the 900 division perform with singing, marching, instruments. Some perform administrative duties during PIRs, like tending to the VIPs, holding doors, etc. There are lots of "behind the scenes" jobs for them! 900 SRs usually have high ASVAB scores --- they are picked because RTC figures that with less time to train since they have to practice, they can keep it all together with the extra duties! Lala will have more info on the 900 groups since her daughter was in one. They enjoy them!
truluv: Navy Lodge is about 1.5 miles from the base...you book in your sailor's name. Navy Gateway is on A School base, but you must have military ID to stay there. At Navy Lodge, they just ask that your sailor "stop by the front desk" during PIR weekend...and many times, this isn't mandatory. There is no PIR shuttle (taxis operating as shuttles on PIR Day....$3/pp each way, sailor usually rides back for free) from Navy Lodge....but you can use Sarge's transportation service-- 847 212 0246, drive, or take a regular cab. Many of the hotels use the PIR shuttle service, however.
Good Morning, my son is ship 02 div 907... New to this, does anyone know if there is lodging on the base...
I am so confused...on the official letter my son put mom, dad and sister on it for guests. He has an 11 yr and 9 yr old siblings. They were not put on the list because it says just above where the list would be that 12 and under DONT need to be on the list. Now they are changing the rules? Or does this ONLY apply to the PIR in November that is so big and then the age limit will go back up until January like I had read. I need to know ASAP so I can buy my airline tickets. I am just reading so much confusing information. And then what do I do with my 2 younger kids? Tell 1 of 3 they can go but the other 2 can't and then try to find a sitter for them? I am very frustrated!
Diannep - Thank you for directing us to the Pages link with info on the 12/29/2011 PIR. That is invaluable information! It was posted November 3rd last year, so I'm a little curious that the same information for this year isn't available yet. : ? There is a link to the RTC FB page from there (I'm going to sign up for that right away) but nothing posted there either as far as I could see.
Dear fellow Floridians: I was up there in February 2010 for my son's PIR. Being a S. Floridian...yikes! But we hit a "warm streak" for that time of year....highs were in the low to mid 20's, lows in the teens! Yep, that was considered warm!
Here is my advice for you all.....LAYER LAYER LAYER! And have a nice coat to block that wind that will go right through you! Boots are good, a scarf, hat, whatever. Those use to cold weather always laugh at us Floridians....we just "dont do" cold so well! :-)
