Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I'm not really sure how to make plans now..... Would Public of Affairs know? Monday is Veteran's Day so I'm not sure if my son Austin would be able to write a letter? SOOO happy to get the PIR - what a relief! I can say now that I don't cry so much....Hang in there Plankers! One of the gentleman from work did me a favor yesterday......I've been home for 4 1/2 recovery from surgery so I have had a lot of time to "think" about my son. This is what he did for me and I now for you...... please continue to read:

Comment by FeatheredNest on November 10, 2012 at 8:53am: Good Morning all of the amazing mothers of our SRs!!!! I was not on yesterday due to not feeling well....I was pretty blue. THEN I received my son's PIR letter! YAY!!!! I sat in my car right next to the mailbox and addressed collectively 13 letters my husband and I had written to him. I cried needless to say.....lots of tears and contacted EVERYONE!!!! What I found so "different" was his handwriting. ALL CAPS and in a straight line.....NEVER has he written that way..... becoming a Man.....My husband and I are looking to drive we are about 12-13 hours from there due to flight costs.....BUT Question: I am soooo confused on this holiday Stand Down after graduation. Do they fly back home? then return on the 6th? My son will be staying in GL after graduation - anyone know?

When my son went to BC...he left an opened bag of Flamin' hot Cheetos.

I didn't throw them away until he came home 9 months later :-)
