~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

If this TG qualifies for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program you will start recieveing letters in the mail from your recruit. You then fill it out and fax it back. You are allowed to have one other recruit with you and your recruit will fill that part out first.
The way it works is you are allowed to have your recruit for Chritmas day. You pick them up very early from the base and they have to be returned that night. There is a certain distance they are allowed to go from base.
Those TG's that do qualify for AAS all leave base for the day. Local families host groups (there is a limit). Churches and local Businesses do as well.
The rest of the TG's receive a special dinner (same for Thanksgiving) and it is of course treated like a Sunday, so they have holiday time.
Okay, don't shoot the messenger please!
Unless someone has heard from there recruit already...I do not know if this TG will qualify. Last year the Dec 29th PIR did not as they received the special Holiday Leave...and they could not have both. The Adopt-A-Sailor went to the two senior Groups following in January.
Adopt-A-Sailor usually goes to the two most senior TG's. The Thanksgiving one is going to one TG - 11/30, but it is HUGE (15 Divsions so it's like two TG's almost!).
So we are a wait and see for the Leave and AAS as well...(sigh).
My son is in Ship 03, Div 039 also and will PIR on 12/28. We are very proud of him . I asked the question at the RTC facebook page and was told they will be on leave after PIR because the A schools in Great Lakes are on Standown until Jan. 6. Does anyone know if they can leave the area or do they still report to their barracks at night unitl Jan. 6?
Wait, what? My husband and I are planning to drive up from Texas, spend Christmas in Ohio with my mother, and then on to Great Lakes. If I can see my kid, I am SO going to ditch my own mother (she will understand) and see my kid. May we really see our babies on Christmas? I thought it was not allowed.
YOU BET!
Sure thing, please do the same. <3
I don't know how to Adopt Our Sailors......looking into it...if you find out anything would you let me know SCNavyMom7?
Hi FeatheredNest, how do we adopt our sailors? I didn't realize you could choose the sailor you want to adopt. If that is the case, I may to readjust my holiday schedule and do just that if the rest of our family can get away.
FeatheredNest and others who have gotten ship/division numbers from recruiters before receiving form letters:
Be sure to check the form letter address when you receive it to make sure that there are no changes. The recruiters get the addresses from the computer, but sometimes there are changes. So go with the form letter address if they are different.....no worries if the first address is incorrect and you already mailed letters....letters will get there...just may take a little longer to find your recruit! :-)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You! Thank you! No I'm going to mail my letters today! How comforting!!!! Are any of you guys going early to "adopt your Sailor" on Christmas and then stay for graduation? Thanks you Diannep, Ingrid and Zman's mom!!!!!!! Much love
