For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

While recruits are listed in this status, they are not scheduled to graduate. They will not get another phone call until their status changes, meaning: They have passed their test. If they pass before their graduation date, they will complete Battle Stations with whatever division is going through it next. If they pass their test after their original division has graduated, they will then go directly on to their A School. They will not participate in a graduation ceremony as their division would have already graduated and we do not wish to delay their A School training any further.I just copied this information from the official navy site, hope it will not happen to my son.

I think the confusion may have come because they are sailors after they complete BattleStations and have the capping ceremony. Some of them may go through BattleStations before PIR 12/21. But they will not be at that PIR...they will be at their own.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:57pm: No, Rachel. He wouldn't have done BattleStations last week. This PIR group will not be starting those until possibly late next week or the following (PIR) week. He must have been referring to some of the other drills that they must pass.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 1:37pm: ...actually, most PIR groups start BattleStations the week before PIR group. My son did his the Thurs night/Fri morning a week before PIR. So it is not unusual.

Normally what they do is start the PIR group's BattleStations (lowest-numbered divisions first) on Thurs night, week before PIR week. But occasionally they have started on a Tues or even Wed night (but both are rare).
