While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by rayner on December 12, 2012 at 12:01pm: NavymomIN: I didn't mean to imply that the PIR was going to change. Just that they were doing battle stations early and their gradutaion (becoming sailors) was going to take place alot earlier than usual. I just found this to be quite early but like LeeAnn wrote with Xmas that can be why all this is so early.

If you want to make yourself feel good - go to the RTC Facebook page and read the posts from the new parents whose son/daughter just left on the 6th and they are wondering why they haven't heard from them!! Makes me feel sooooo good to know we are this far into it and only a couple weeks left!! I feel for them asking all the questions I did. We also have the "luxury" of hopefully having our kids with us after PIR which so many will not have that luxury.

Comment by diannep on December 12, 2012 at 9:47am: rayner: Ok, I think I know what he means now. He is talking about the fact that they become "sailors" at the capping ceremony right after BattleStations. That makes sense. In essence, that is their "graduation." The PIR is the formal ceremony.

Although never say never in the Navy, I still am surprised at the BS date for that division. But again....never say never! :-)

He did say in two letters that he was graduating on the 21st. although he knows his PIR is on the 28. It was after battle stations that they were doing early. Just wanted to know if this was because of Christmas

Thank you gray... I did ask him when I talked to him last week about a "push" division but he said he didn't know anything about that. Maybe they don't tell the SR. I just thought that battle stations were kind of early on the 19th since they are graduating on the 28th. He went in on Nov 1st and had 5 p days before boot camp started.

Yes, they do marching outside (if not too cold, but they are bundled up very warm!)....but PT is done inside most times. He told me that they had to shovel snow sometimes too. But sometimes it was so cold, they couldn't go out.

No, he will not be PIRing on 12/21. Not sure what that was about....but they do have a PIR on 12/21 for those divisions in that group. A "push" division just means that they have a few less days to complete everything. They still PIR at the same time.

As far as when they start BattleStations for a PIR group, they usually do start them the week before PIR week. However the 900 divisions almost always go during PIR week. So I would be very surprised at the date he gave you for 907. It is possible that he meant that BattleStations for his PIR group start then, which is possible.

Is it possible that he meant that they would be performing in the PIR for 12/21 rather than graduating then? I think they perform in at least 2 other PIRs in addition to their own.
