~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".
The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

FTLW - I got a call from a Marine recruiter the other day for my other son (he's 17). Kind of floored me. I think I popped his recruiting bubble though. I asked, "Have you MET my son?" Recruiter says, "No, but he expressed an interest online." I said, "Right. Did he express an interest by clicking on a picture of a really big gun?" Silence. I felt kind of bad for the guy - he sounded young - so I asked, "How are the marines about special needs?" The recruiter said, "Huh?" I said, "My son is autistic. High functioning, but on the autism spectrum. The technical term is Asperger's Syndrome. One of the things kids with Aspergers sometimes do is develop particular areas of interest. My son's is the military." Silence. Again...I felt bad for the recruiter, so I finally said, "Do you want to send us some printed material?" He said (relief ringing through the phone), "Sure!"
Poor guy! Actually, one of my son's main fascinations is with the Enterprise - Big E. We searched everywhere on television today to try to find the decommissioning but couldn't. I suspect I'll be checking online tomorrow.
I know...my middle son mentioned going to the Army Recruiter today (we know he has wanted to go in, doing some college right now and a little life!)...he went by earlier and it was CLOSED ON SATURDAY!
Yippee for me! LOL
I do want it for him...but honestly...just thinking about him being gone gives me a heartache.
He wants active duty, Cavalry Scout.
Can I ground him indefinitely?!
Reality check : Oh poop, like I can do anything "to" him anymore...19, trains horses for work, smokes ciagrs now...I'm just along for the ride!LOL
"No recruiter...bad recruiter bad!" (sigh)
Our Seabee is a reservist so he is home.
We are going to decorate a little tonight...or that was the plan! LOL Hubby went off to "horses" with son so they could work them (we board our sons horse and Hubby os elarning from him wiht a friends).
We spent a lazy morning in bed...so few and far between...
AND then I have been on here all day!
Fireteam....Thank you for the post. I had my first break down of crying in a long time last night. I tried to stop but the tears just kept flowing. I am trying to decorate my house inside today while hubby does the outside and all I can think about is how my son would have liked this. I know this is just a short period in his life and mine before we can talk to each other but Christmas has always been very special to our family. I have 3 other kids at home and I am trying my best to find the holiday spirit but it is hard. I don't know how to handle this NEW reality I am in with only 3 kids at home instead of 4. I know I will be doing a lot of crying I am sure but YET so excited for PIR on 12-28.
(repost as I had to correct a typo)
This will be the final time I post this for this GROUP. Just a little "business" today (I will be posting this on all the PIR groups), Nobody has done anything wrong, it's just an FYI since we have had a few new members in the last couple of days and a gentle reminder as we go along.
If your last name is in your username and it is the same as your recruits, you will need to change your username please. Last names of Recruits/Sailors are not permitted on the N4M's website.
If it is not the same we still recommend not using it for your own personal security...but it is of course your choice.
Here is a link to a PAGE that will explain how to change your username and some other settings for your personal Profile Page.
"How do I change my Settings?"
Also, for new members please make sure you read the N4M’s Community Guidelines and OPSEC PAGE.
I'll be adding a few more PAGES today and will post a link.
Have a great day!
ADDED these new PAGES for you (I know the "After PIR" one will not necessarily apply for this PIR, but it's there to read anyways...)
Flags and Pennants that your DIV can earn while at BC
After PIR – Liberty; Sailors Departures from RTC
PIR: What to Wear/Bring and Tips; PIR Reference Group/Forum links; ...
Here is the link to the entire PAGE list:
ADDED a DISCUSSION about MARLINESPIKE to the Discussion FORUM area.
Your Recruits may be writing home about it soon. They do this at the end of Training Week three.
Oh Ladies, I know it is very hard and I have to say that I am so glad you are expressing yourselves on here. Thank you for posting. There are many who join the group but "read only" and it helps them to hear from you.
I will be posting a video and pics every day....just something I like to do. I get busy maintaining the GROUPS and some days it’s all I can do time wise. I know that it is a sad time and I just want to inject some beauty and/or laughter into your lives.
All though my Hubby is a reservist, his “real” job as law enforcement took him away from home around the holidays for the first half of his career. Just being a young cop, you get the short stick, so I understand some of what you are feeling, even though he has not been gone completely.
That did almost happen two years ago when he was deployed. They weren’t going to allow his team to come home for Christmas. They had a seven day lag between training and leaving the country and were told there had to be a ten day lag in order to come home.
So, we celebrated it on December 1st before he left on the 3rd. While they were there they found out they could come home and had to scramble to get their orders amended (you don’t shred and make new ones in the military it seems, you have to amend them, (or amend an “amend” if need be LOL). It was approved and they came home. I was so glad he came home…the down was we had to say goodbye all over again!
When he deployed the first time, we got the call on the 27th of December. He was gone in ten days to destinations unknown.
I have to say, I don’t think I’ll ever be bored, not with this man! When we were 18 and 19 and dating, I was the only GF in the group of his friends. One of my gf’s asked how I could “stand it”…all those “guys”. I said, “Hey, I get spoiled, paid attention too and it is NEVER boring!” They were F.U.N! LOL
There will be “oldies but goodies” and hopefully some new ones as far as my video postings (though there aren't too many new Christmas shows). I usually read the Groups, say a little prayer and "go with it" when one pops into my head!
We use humor a lot too White, it’s either laugh or cry…well, sometimes both, but I’ll choose “irony” or laughter if it will get me through! I save the cries for my “Shower Therapy” time now! LOL
My son called this morning Ship 03, Div 039. He finally got some antibiotics for his sinus infection and hoarse voice. Said he is feeling better. Wanted me to send his flight itinerary in the mail - he can leave on Sat. at 4:00 for leave until Jan. 6. I asked him what they did on Thanksgiving and he said "IT" Some had messed up and they paid for it. There are still a few individuals not cooperating but the rest are doing better. He said he would call again next Saturday. He said he was not homesick but missed the family being able to talk to us when he wanted. But it was an upbeat phone call. Told him I would be taking him with me 4 weeks from today!!
I had my first break down cry last night. Haven't done this in a few weeks. We were at the Victorian Country Christmas at the Puyallup Fair Grounds last night and I was fine until we went into the last building and the Music was playing and I just lost it. I felt so stupid but yet didn't care at the same time. I don't know how I am going to handle my son being away from his family at Christmas. Christmas is a big deal at our house. I still feel like breaking down into tears......God help me. Thank you ladies for all your support. I would love lost without you.
I know what you mean Brenda! I'm reminded of when I was pregnant with my SR - every single time I turned on the TV, the Lifetime channel was showing some horrible movie about pregnancy gone wrong, kidnapped babies, etc. I stopped watching TV entirely! In this case - earbuds and an MP3 player are a definite option!
