N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

Okay, I finally got a letter from my son today, and all along I have been saying that he is not a letter writer, and true to what I have been saying, he wrote very little. Just a sentence telling me to let his friends know his address so they can write to him. Nothing about how he is doing or anything. Not very comforting at all.

GOT A CALL!  Missed it, so he talked to our voicemail, but still!  So happy to hear from him!  He called while we were at work, and both of us have jobs that do not allow us to answer our cell phones.  Huge bummer!  He mentioned Adopt a Sailor.  I wish we could go up and get him for the day, but there's just no way to make that happen.  I'm writing him tonight to tell him - hopefully he'll be adopted by a family in the area.

30 minute phone call today from my son....I am sooo happy.  03/040.  Hope to hear from him again.  He sounded good but still homesick.

Hi moms and dads, I have been reading a lot from newer moms that have just sent off their SRs.  HANG IN THERE.  I am on week 3 1/2.  The first week and half was HELL.  Cried everyday, couldn't think, beside myself.  I can say it does get better.  I had veteran moms telling me it would get better.  At the time I didn't believe them BUT it does get better.  Write as much as you can, send cards, just NO SINGING ones, jokes trivia stuff.  My son said to me I am surrounded by thousands of people yet completely cut off from the world.   So they LOVE hearing from any and everyone especially loved ones.  They do miss us.  Even the hardest of the hard before BC become mush at BC because they are being stressed like no other and miss home.  All I can say is it is an emotional roller coaster.  If it weren't for this site and chatting with other mom, wives or girlfriends I am not sure I would be sane. Stay on this site. Make friends and hang on.  I PROMISE IT GETS BETTER.  and there is noting wrong with crying, venting, or just needing a virtual hug and knowing we are all in the same boat and feeling the same way.  I am always around to talk to.   Message me or friend me.  My son left on November 1 and today I got a wonderful surprise....he called.  I cried!  I got to talk for 30 minutes and it was wonderful.  I didn't want the call to end!  Much love and hugs to everyone!  Ingrid

I got a letter today and the form letter for Christmas! They said you got to reserve it, no surprise visits. you pick them up at 8 or 9 and return them at 7pm. After the 28th graduation, from what i understand will get the weekend if the A school is in Great Lakes. Other wise they will leave the 29th of Dec. to their A-school. also, if the weather is bad they can keep you from seeing them on Dec 25th. for the SR's safety.

YAY finally got a letter. He sounded good just asked me to pass the adopt a sailor form on to family in the area. This was the pick me up for my day since it was rotten otherwise.

I went ahead and wrote a post directly on the US Navy Recruit Training Command Facebook page. Hope to hear something soon. It is in regards to leave during the holiday stand down for our 12/28 PIR group and whether they get it or not.

Also...Im not sure what to do with them in Chicago.  Will everything be closed on Christmas day?  It would be kinda strange to drive around in circles because nothing is open.

Comment by rotorwife67 on November 26, 2012 at 9:17pm

So if I'm going to take my son out for Christmas day can I also offer to take someone else?  I'm not sure how this works since I haven't gotten the paperwork yet.  I am definitely going, but if I can take an extra sr or two I would be happy to do that.
