~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@Nika - please do a little bit of research before throwing in the towel! Some recruits don't even RECEIVE letters sent to them until their 3rd week in, let alone be allowed to send them out.
@BG - we also burned a blue candle at my husbands place setting around the table. My family didn't get it but I don't care! I love my boy in blue!
HOPE EVERYONE'S THANKSGIVING WAS BLESSED! 3 WEEKS DOWN!! 5 TO GO!!
We got two letters today! They were dated November 18th. He said he was going to get to call Thanksgiving or today. He sounded very certain about it. He did not say how the whole division was doing, but he did say he was a section leader and a stick so he will be out front when they come out for graduation! His dad, a marine from the Persian Gulf War era, broke down and cried, knowing what an honor and responsibility it is to be a section leader. He was getting 2 wisdom teeth out this past Monday. Said the guys tease him because he gets so much mail....He said he shaves at 2am every morning and has had only 2 decent showers since he's been there. He was also asking about the Adopt-a-Sailor program too. He had not received anything about it yet, but he is very anxious to get it approved. All in all he sounded better in this letter than the last. Do hope some will get to call yet today. Blessings to all of you....
I received 3 letters from my son (Ship 3 Div 040) today. The first was the form letter that I have been waiting for. The second was a fill in the blank questionnaire that I sent to him to fill in the blanks and the final was a handwritten letter. He sounds positive but it sounds like they are still having problems in their division because he said he's tired of getting punished for others in their division that refuse to follow directions. He said that he's cold but other than that he talked about how it's "not so bad" and that he is "getting used to the lifestyle". The one thing he did say was "KEEP THE LETTERS COMING...IT REALLY HELPS ALOT". So for all of you ladies out their who haven't received a letter from your sailer, please don't stop writing them. They may not be able to send letters home but if there is even a chance that they are getting their mail it could make a huge difference for them.
@wrat123 - I didn't even think of inspections. That is a huge reason why they wouldn't be able to call. I bet that is so frustrating for them, especially the ones that did well. I am going to have to be extra encouraging in my letters! Thanks for the update!
Burned my blue candle for much of the day yesterday....to symbolize my daughter's spirit with us...Christmas will be much harder, but I am so proud of her for hanging in there to serve our country & become a sailor. I am just so ready to hear from her.
Still no letter, no phone call.
Still hoping for a letter today....my mail sometimes doesn't arrive until after 5 pm.
Until I get a letter, I'm holding onto the philosophy of "no news is good news". So glad some of you have gotten phone calls & letters.
I so want to be at PIR for her, but my husband isn't giving me much hope of that happening.
For all of you who are out shopping and listening to Christmas music I want to share a song with you. WARNING!!!! It make get stuck in your head and you may find yourself singing it all day lol. I wrote this little jingle last year and it is to the tune of Santa Claus is coming to town.
They’re Makin' a list, Checkin' it twice,
Gonna see their Sailor, It's really really nice,
Navy Moms are coming to town
They're bringing the wives, girlfriends too,
Gonna be crying through Pass In Review,
Navy Moms are comin' to town
They've stalked the local mailman,
Facebooked and Tweeted too,
They've learned the rules of OPSEC
and made lifelong friends here too.
Oh, you better dress warm, the weather is cold,
You better wear your ribbons of silver and gold
Navy Moms are coming to town ;-)
