Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by DaytonaBeachMom on November 22, 2012 at 12:07pm: Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!! I miss my son but I know he is where he wanted to be - in the Navy!! We are very proud of him as I know all of you are proud of your sons and daughters who chose the military life!! And assume that they are not writing because they are having a great time and things aren't that bad!! My Dad keeps telling me it was worse when he was in (WWII) and he went into the Navy at 17!! And if you count the other way - it's alreday been 21 days today!! Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers today!!

Comment by Rickysgirl23 on November 21, 2012 at 9:49pm: I got a letter today! Well he put 5 letters in one envelope! It was postmarked 11/19 just like he said. He said they are doing well. He said the RDCs were making an example out of him at first, but he is adjusting. They had their swim and physical tests already, and have their first inspections this week. It was nice to be reassured of his love for me even though I know it. He also let me know that he is becoming a sailor, but is still the man I fell in love with. :-) One more obstacle down, now to skip the days to PIR! Your letters will come soon ladies. Stay strong, they need us to be!

So I'm just trying to catch up now on all the information for holiday leave. My son is ship 11 div 043...he was originally ship 11 div 038..does that mean the only thing that changes for his address is the division part?
