So glad letters are starting to filter out - I don't have one yet, but love reading what the recruits are saying.

Some fun things that I have been doing with sending my daughter letters are I carrying a blank card with me when I am going to see our friends and family so they can say a quick hello. My little Sister just had a baby shower and I had everyone sign it for her and sent if off. I also took a card to her old work and left it there so everyone can sign it and will mail it. She said she LOVED that card! Also I am trying to get fun colored cards so there is some verity.

She was very concerned about missing Halloween this year, she even had her friends throw her a Halloween party before she left (silly girl!). So I found a cool gliter pumpkin card and wrote in it “See baby, I got you a pumpkin for you in boot camp!” I am sure she will LOVE that!

One thing my daughter asked for is to send her a mail kit, I thought she was asking for more stamps but in further letters it turns out that she needed paper and envelops also so I sent some today… her class does not have access to the NEX for two more weeks.

Also earlier this week I sent her the questionnaire. I am looking forward to getting that back 

When on Facebook I note down some fun updates from her friends so she is in the know.

I cannot wait to hear her voice!!!! And thanks for the advice about not crying when talking to them. I am going to try but if she breaks down… it on!

I got three letters from her yesterday and wrote back like four pages… poor kid I am sure she is getting the long letters she just rolls her eyes and thinks when on earth am I ever going to have time to read all of this… but I just feel close to her when I am writing to her.

Any way – sorry for the long post. Hope you are all having a great day and here’s to lots of ringing phones today!

just some friendly advice, try not to cry..... when you talk to them, i kept my tears in and i think it helped when he cried, after i kept telling him he will be OK he finally calmed down and just kept talking,, it was awesome to here him mummble in the phone, he was speaking very clear, just tell them they have one hand of weeks left it will go fast.. i waited until i got off the phone to cry, i was afraid that if i cried, he would have said I,m leaving it is to upsetting and my mom can't handle it.. that is the hardest thing I have ever had to do , is suck it up for his sake... the time is going fast, and I hope the kids all pull together, like we pull together, and we can all be proud together, All of us, the boys kids to (I"M Sorry) i guess there is husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, we are all on big navy family,, i love each and ever one of you. Thanks for taking this journy together... stay strong

His gf got a letter and said they were suppose to call on Wednesday. Do you think those that didn't will get to call today?
Comment by Stacy (ship 09 div 10) on October 28, 2010 at 11:54am
I got a letter today! He also sent one to my husband and his little brother. Marion he DOES know your son! :) He said there are 16 nukes in his division and 19 in his graduating class. And he did confirm his division is a grad and go. Boo! He passed his first PT! He hasn't been sick but had HUGE blisters on the back of his heals that almost landed him on the disabled list. He added that he had to peel his socks off because the blood would crust over and stick. OUCH! He's had three oral surgeries! Had to have a root canal where they had to take out part of his jaw. Wow. He sounded good and encouraged writing because it helps him a lot.

Now for my what should I do about work this afternoon? He didn't say when he would call or IF he would call. I have a feeling it will be this afternoon since others from his division called yesterday. I spoke with my boss this morning and they are willing to cover my route so I don't miss this call! How sweet is that? So, should I take the chance and go to work? Or stay home waiting by the phone?

Okay, one last question. Looking for creative ideas of types of cards/letters/etc. to mail to Cody. Definitely want something funny or upbeat. I have mailed him funny cards, serious "I'm proud of you" cards, sent a few cards from our Boxer (LOL), sent a few typed letters with silly photos of his friends (just printed on the letter paper), and then printed off his Facebook page where many of his friends had written notes. Does anybody else have other encouraging/uplifting ideas??? Also, would our recruits benefit from us sending them a little money? Your ideas and thoughts are tremendously appreciated!

Has anybody found the Facebook page where they periodically post photos of recruits currently in bootcamp?

Good morning Lukesmom! Be sure to let me know when you receive your phone call! I, too, have my phone glued to me. I don't know about you, but I am going to have to work very hard at not getting emotional when I talk with him. But I will be strong. . . I'm eager to hear from Cody to see if he knows Luke. Have you connected with anyone else who has someone in their division?

We are in the same time zone. His division started calling yesterday. He knows my work schedule but thinking I might have an important appointment come up. ;-)

Awww....Molly....it is heartbreaking when they call so sad like that...but many if not most do in the beginning....he is "under the gun" right now...in that phase where they feel like they can't do ANYTHING right. Please assure him that it gets so much better. " A" School is a whole different world, and then when in the fleet...even better. Slowly freedoms are given back to the sailors....continue to remind him that you know he can do this, validate that you know it is probably the hardest thing he has ever done but how proud you are of him, and just keep encouraging...you will notice that by the 4th or 5th week, things are different and their tone changes. They finally know they can do it...and see the "goal" in the near future (that capping ceremony where they trade their recruit baseball caps for their Navy caps...at the completion of their BattleStations). Hang in there...it is so hard on a mom's heart....but your encouragement and pride in him will give him the push he needs! I have a feeling that his phone call came to you when he had a particularly difficult day...and then hearing your voice....well....hard for them as it is for us. As a mom of a sailor now, I can tell you...the BEST IS YET TO COME!
