@momcf: Is he GradNGo to GL? If so, not only will he get weekend liberty with you, but he may get overnights! If they are not GradNGo to GL, then you will just get days with him. GradNGo's usually move over to the other base right after PIR, which means you will be away from him for 3-5 hours, but once he calls (with his phone card....no cell yet) for you to pick him up at the new base, you may have him for the rest of the weekend. Then when he returns to the A School base, he can have his cell, laptop, etc...just not as long as he is on RTC. Hoping that he is GradNGo so you have him all of the time!

Priveleges at A-school have to do with the Phase they are in. Phase 1 means they have very limited priveleges. They are wearing their uniforms all most all the time except perhaps when they are in their room. They may leave the base on liberty for short periods of time but muster in often. They always leave with a buddy. My son is very excited becasue he is about to move up to phase 2. This means he gets to wear civilian clothes sometimes on base and most importantly when he goes off base. It also means that the number of miles he can travel away from the base increases. His commanding officer has told him that when he reaches phase 3 he can have his vehicle. So, your sailor will be informed of the rules of his base. Some schools are so short it isn't worth worrying about. My son's school is pretty short, but he is in Pensacola and there is such a waiting list that it takes a long time to class up. For example, he told me he was starting his classes in 9 days, I said I thought it would be more like 8 weeks, he siad...my orders say...I said...navy for moms says....well guess who was right....lol!! You got it...navy for moms!! So, learn this answer, that is something your commanding officer at A-school will need to inform you about!! It works wonders...lol!!

thank you ladies, he asked me those questions and I wasnt sure what the answers were. I have heard there was a possibility of them getting off from dec.17 to jan 2 and he wasnt sure if he would be allowed to take his truck back with him, and I didnt know either, but I figured someone on here would know.

Momclf, if he is grad and go there is a great chance you will have him all weekend including nights starting a few hours after PIR, he could have to go back for a few hours for watch. If he is not grad and go you will get him from right after PIR until about 8 on Friday, and all day sat and Sun, but he could still have a few hours watch at some point during the weekend.

diannep and Lala, thanks for the info. i was really worried about them not getting to come. especially my 15 yr old. he needs to meet people going through the same thing we are. it has been VERY hard for him.
momclf, my son has a friend in GL now and he got to spend from Fri nite til Sun nite with his family. they can not have a car though. but he can have personal items. we are taking a few things and even if we have to rent a locker that will be ok because it will be very temporary....

Hi friends, I have a question...I am hoping someone on here might know the answer. My son is going to A school at GL, will we get to spend sat & sun with him? Does anyone know if he is allowed to have a vehicle at A school? Any information would be great. I got a call today from him, my first, and I knew more of what was going on then he did. He said to me, "how do you know all this, that navymom website?" so they know about us, haha.
