The thing about the Navy Lodge is posted on BC Moms under PIR info.
So, good to know that there has not been any problems as far as we have heard. Thanks diannep!
Greetings!
"Therefore by Him let us continually offer
the sacrifice of praise to God that is, the fruit
of our lips giving thanks to His name."
Hebrews 13:15
Yep, all sailors have to return to base at night when on Liberty after PIR.
PA NavyMom: If you are concerned about staying at Navy Lodge in the event your SR has an RDC who says don't go there...here are other hotels we recommend from reviews on this site:
Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, and Residence Inn....all close to each other, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, near a giant Walmart center with restaurants nearby. 4-5 miles from RTC. You call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate....they hold some of the rooms at this rate, so call now. We actually used our AAA rate when up there at Residence---enjoyed our stay at Residence very much....full kitchens for any who want to cook for their new sailors. So if you have other discounts available to you, you may check that out (all of these hotels are Marriott Hotels except for Holiday Inn, of course!).
These hotels are in the Waukegan/Gurnee area.
Remember, you all are going to be dealing with holiday bookings at these hotels. Not all will be leaving the base to head home for the holidays....some family members will be coming to visit their A School sailors. Soooo....do not wait on booking your hotel rooms! You usually can cancel/change up to day before or day of arrival.
PA NavyMom: That "rumor" about sailors having to have a chit to visit Navy Lodge is not true...it has been going around now for awhile. I think where things get mixed up is that at Navy GATEWAY, which is on A School base, the sailors moving over there have to get a chit to visit their family in that hotel. The students on that base are normally not allowed in the hotel. It is not a problem to get and the ones moving over there get it right away.
But no worries for Navy Lodge....although some RDCs insist on telling the SRs otherwise. I don't understand why....checked it out with RTC and they said not necessary.
The other moms will be along soon for more hotel recommendations :-)
PA Navy mom - The Navy Lodge is usually fine.
I'm reading that too, as far as if those new Sailors stating at GL A school may possibly need a chit. I have never seen it happen on here but that doesn't mean it hasn't.
I've been off the site for about a year, other veteran mom's any experience with that as far as the Lodge?
The Navy Lodge is not located onboard RTC or the TSC GL ( main base). It is in the Forestal Housing of NSGL. It is one of the few (maybe the only) NL designed this way so that civilians may stay there. Your Recruit/Sailor is your sponsor, so use their name and rate when booking. Or if you have your own military ID you may book with that. The rates are good, it is clean , close to PIR and has a shuttle service to PIR now. Bag breakfast to go, coffee 24/7.
In 2011, mine was a holdover and was on board RTC for a few days ( it was a holiday wekend and he had a later flight) and I stayed at the Lodge and there were no issues.
Your new Sailor must always be with someone while on Liberty though. They can't walk around the hotel or anywhere alone.
TSC GL= Training Service Command Great Lakes
RTC = Recruit Training Command
NSGL= Naval Station Great Lakes
AFMOM - New Sailors must return to the base each night. No overnight Liberty.
