When the recruits graduate on 12/31 are they allowed to stay in the hotel with family while on liberty or do they have to keep going back to barricks each night.
Mst: Consider booking your flights on Southwest Airlines into either Chicago-Midway or Miwaukee..Milwaukee may be cheaper, has cheaper car rental, no traffic....shorter drive to GL. Southwest has no change fee if your SR gets delayed in training. Those fees can be a little steep! Also, 2 bags check for free.....
I have my room reserved, my car reserved, now I am going to purchase my plane tickets and count the days till I get to hug my son.
Hi!
Welcome to Navy for Moms!!
My Sailor Daughter's PIR was March 2013--can't believe how fast time has flown!. She is an IT3 (Information Systems Technician, Petty Officer Third Class). I primarily provide scriptural encouragement for the PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and a few of the other groups that I am a member of. I'll also help out with anything that I am familiar with--all kinds of tidbits I learned during my daughter's Boot Camp experience~~ This site really made the time go much faster. I'm so thankful that my Sailor daughter sent me the link for this awesome group of friends when she enlisted!! Count 9 Fridays and before you know it, you'll be seeing your baby again at PIR!! Here we go!!!
Hey there, ladies. I am another one of the N4Moms veterans, helping on the PIR groups for almost 5 yrs now. My sailor is now out of the Navy, but I love staying here to help! He is on his last class for his Bachelor's, and God willing will have it in December! Thank you, GI Bill! A wonderful wonderful "perk" of their military experience!
seabeefamily: There is no way any of you all will know this yet. They won't know until right before PIR...when their flights are confirmed. I posted on Bootcamp Moms that most likely, those flying out will do so on Fri or Sat (Wed PIR)....don't think they will fly on New Years Day since it is a Federal Holiday, but never say never in the Navy! Since no one can "wait" on their SRs to have their reservations before making your own, it would be best to book flights back home no earlier than Sat., if possible. Just in case! You will be able to visit with your sailor at the airport (many sailors wait a long time there....they are bussed late the night before)....take ID and get an airlines pass to wait at the gate until their departure!
Those with sailors staying in GL for A School will have Daytime Liberty with them through Sunday! They must return to A School base each night, but there is lots of daytime with them!
There are no overnights allowed for any of the new sailors, whether staying in GL for A School or flying out.
seabeefamily-
if your sailor is flying out you will get PIR day and Jan 1st with him/her. They aren't flying out until the 2nd so I've been told...
Welcome Bert
Hello! Welcome to your PIR Group!
You can call me FTLW, it's easier :-)
My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I have been an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife for 28 years…I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Now working on Retirement process from AF and soon from Civilian job. Our son enlisted while Hubby was in Iraq. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands and my separation for 6 months.
I am a “veteran” mom and volunteer on the PIR groups mostly.
Hi!!
Welcome to your PIR group!
My son graduated BC in April of 2012. He is an ET, stayed in GL for A School, went to C School in San Diego, and is forward-deployed. The ship he is attached to is a Whidbey Island-class landing ship, part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), Squadron 11.
A few other veteran moms will be joining to help answer questions, offer support, and give you lots of information.
There will also be lots of pages posted with information for you along the way. They will be posted as the subjects come up!
Remember there are no dumb questions, so ask away!
Fasten your seatbelts...the next few weeks will be a roller coaster ride, but at the end of the ride you are in for the best hug ever!!
Please take the time to read the PAGES here, on your PIR GROUP. The PAGES are located on the right side of this main comment wall, directly under the member photos.
Please be sure to read about:
N4M’s Community Guidelines and OPSEC (direct clickable Link)
We will be placing more information there along the way for you as well.
